  1. That's odd... I got awesome brakes on the little 1500 never been a issue.
  2. Jack up the axle so the tire is hanging free. Then try rocking the tire on the top and bottom and see if the wheel moves if any movement is felt it time to replace bearings.
  3. Now you know why I play the MPG game so much because I don't the get the price breaks like you do.

I figured I would use Mom's 96 dodge a bit more since diesel prices are inching up now at 4.169 and gasoline is 3.629 so why not try to optimize the gas engine a bit more and see how far I can go. I'm planing on building a tonneau cover for the bed. It's going to be a hard cover that folds. Be a place to toss my fire bag and miscellaneous stuff out of the weather. So I'm starting this thread to let you all see what I turn out for MPG's on a gasser now. I've even mathed out the tire pressures and using 235/85 R16 tires which are strictly a road radial low rolling resistance. Kind of weird way I figured my tire pressures. I did a scale weight a while back and remember 5,200 pounds. So being safe I upped to 5,500 pounds. Now checking my 02 truck for front to rear ratio it turned out 60/40 front to rear. So using the same thing I split the 5,500 pounds 60/40 (3,300/2,200) so then done my math and turn out 43 PSI front and 29 PSI in the rear. Tires sit nice and flat to the floor of the shop. Done a bit of tuning of the kick down cable for the transmission. Got a nice crisp shift pattern now. But found there is a slight gain to be had kicking the OD off on even small hill climbs like from Riggins to home which is roughly 1,000 foot climb in 15 miles. Which works out to roughly a 1.2% grade. Even my buddy Kelly was kind of shocked looking at the ScanGauge and watching the MPG numbers grow.

  6. Actually the washable media filter break down over time with every washing so the filter media tend to allow larger and more debris particles into the engine. It's the whole fact of just washing the filter that becomes the problem. There is no way for a owner to verify the filtration of a filter after washing 10, 20, 50, 100 times if it still meeting the grade. This why I do not suggest washable media filters at all just way to risky for the expense of a Cummins engine to be rebuilt or replaced.

  8. Well gang. I'm now switched over to the little 1/2 ton truck and going to see how far I can reach with MPG's on it. Using what I've learn with the Cummins I'm going to use against the 5.9L V8 Magnum engine and see how far I can reach.   11. Not to rub anyones nose in this... (trying to be respectful here) But this is one of the reasons I don't like any kind of washable media filters. Just can't tell if the filter is still holding up to the rated needs of the engine.
  12. Yes. The AirDog supplied wiring will use the factory harness to trigger a relay to power the AirDog 150. But remember do not directly hook the AirDog 150 pump motor to the ECM leads. This will cause damage to the ECM. So if your missing the wiring for it I would contact either Eric @ Vulcan Performance or Pureflow for a harness.
  13. I would contact Deborah again I'm sure shes got a few guys that have installed trans filters on there Dodge Ram before. You might ask her if you can get some contact information of some of these guys and see how they installed it.

  21. I know my 02 has all the wiring present and the socket ofr the fog lamp relay. Just got to hook up the lights, change the headlight switch, and insert the relay. I didn't like the stock lights so I went bigger. Four 100w aircraft landing lights that are controlled by the dimmer switch. 2 lights are hi beam and 2 light are lo beam. Great for this dark canyon I live in.
  22. :whistle:That morning when I left the house it was barely 42*F and then by the time I got up on the mountain it was just get up into the 40's for temp. There was small patches of snow around in the shadows. Well. By the time I got done it was about 68-70*F at the valley floor. I hauled that load home with the winter fronts in. IAT Temps never exceeded 127*F and the coolant never got over 197*F as soon as it did the fan locked and pulled it right back down to 195*F and unlocked. I'm not suggesting running them at those temps but if you get caught it won't kill the truck but be aware of your coolant and IAT temps if you do. But winter fronts start about the same time fire burning starts. For sure by October 20 because I install them then at the same time I shut-down the irrigation water. Winter front will remain in till April 15.
  23. 1. Water - Ours is from a well on the property and the irrigation water is drinkable as well.2. Electricity - We produce approximately 600 watts from our power system. Yes I've already slim down the house and can survive on 600w rather well. 3. Food - We've always got plenty on hand being we do most of our shopping in Boise, ID and bring it back in bulk so come winter time we don't have to drive long distance in the poor conditions of winter.4. Fuel - I've got secondary storage of fuel on the property for the just in case of emergencies. I've seen where the power goes out in the valley and there is no power or fuel for days. I've seen during major fire events the local fuel stations ration or being out of fuel. No surprise there.5. Security - Property now has the gate out front that give me that extra few more moments to see who it is and find out what they want. I normally keep the gate closed so "Diesel" alerts MoparMom and myself of someone opening the gate and then we are aware of what's going one. Most all know I'm a open carry person so my 9mm is still on my hip since I walked in the house.I guess I'm on top of my game...
  24. Always winterize mine with a full tank of fuel and no stabil. 20 plus years on my first saw and it barely needed a tune up after 20 years of service. So I'm going to bet the carb diaphragms are all shot being it was left empty and the ethanol ate them for a winter snack.
