  1. That's because everyone treat each other like family members and tries to respect each other. As for rules and polices we are rather relaxed for the most part. I've never really had any problems with different topics (Gov't / Religious). Also I've never had problems with people that requires me to ban or punish a member. Trust me the staff here is itching to grab the ban hammer and smash a spammer. But that's so very rare.
  2. I just got done with a training about SPOT and SPOT connect. I like the idea. Personally I'm not fond of the idea of some one tracking me by GPS and knowing every step I make. So I'll skip on the SPOT. Typically I go out with other people so I'm not at risk. As for the 9mm FireStar pistol was passed down from my Father when he pasted away so a free firearm is better than a blunt stick. It's better than my .22 Magnum Ruger I got...
  3. That's why I've been putting effort into the point system so people can contribute effort / knowledge and use their experience points to getting there membership. I'm still working at the bugs of the system and trying to clean it up. But like ISX pointed out if you go out and bring back information and share it with others that is valuable too.
  4. ISX is totally right. You can volunteer time, money, or information.
  5. Once again based on my experience with the 24V model of Smarty I borrowed from Bob Wagner way back when (about 5 years ago) I will admit that Catcher is exactly that. Never the less my truck had problems with Smarty way too aggressive even back then. UDC would be nice...
  6. I'm the reverse of it. I'm tuned so I can use all of the power given without any problem. But like running around on the highway is find and dandy. But if I was on 5x5 and ran down to Lucile and turn up Cow creek road I would have to turn down the the power to prevent the truck from losing traction and spinning the tires as I head up Cow creek road which is nothing more than a steep one lane dirt road. So less traction I need to delay on the boost to prevent wheel spin with a quick change on the Edge I got my level already programmed and set up so I just tune it down. No stopping required. Something that would require reflash on a Smarty.Once again I'm not not just a pavement runner...As for your SGII that's weird you can't clear codes. Did you every contact ScanGauge and find out why?
  7. Another hang up is the the fact that Smarty can't tune on the fly. So if your weather conditions or road conditions change rapidly you might be flashing back and forth a bunch. Where a module like Edge allows for this. Most people have good results with the ScanGauge II for OBDII code reading plus you have all the live data you can read from the ECM sensors. Yes, the newer SGII can read boost accurately but no it does not read fuel pressure or EGT's. It can only report for the sensors that are hooked to the ECM or PCM.
  8. Lowest ever recorded was 14.1 MPG (hand math) with the Rv275's and towing my RV which is roughly 7,500# and 31' foot long. But rarely driving over 60 MPH. Note: My ST tires are rated for only 65 MPH. I really don't want to have a blow out.
  9. Something about that just doesn't ring good with me.
  10. Hey John welcome to the family here. You might want to dive in and ask lots of questions. I'm sure someone here will know something or know where you can find the information.
  11. Brown solenoid wire you hook to pin 85 on the relay.Using another wire ground Pin 86 on the relay to body metal. Now with your aftermarket fuel pump you can slice the add on lead some where going to the pump. Then slice the power lead to the pump and hook to 30 and 87a. The lift pump should be shut down and non-functional while cranking.
  12. Me. I would just avoid the interstates and take other highways or roads if possible. I would never drive slower than -10 to what the posted speed limit is. So instead of jumping on the I-84 down in the south to get to Boise, ID I use the back roads and head over through Emmett, ID and pop in the back side of Boise. This route I can hold 21-22 MPG both ways. http://goo.gl/maps/erIVA This route I get 16-18 MPG both ways. http://goo.gl/maps/aoVGr Distance is the same. But the trip is all of ~25 minutes longer. But the saving is huge! I could use Hwy 55 but I'm not fond of all the Boise crowd racing up and down the narrow 2 lane road to McCall, ID
  13. I do most of my shopping in Ontario, OR (No Sales Taxes) then if that doesn't work then I got on down to Boise, ID.
  14. Everyone teases me about driving slow. What do I have to prove by speeding? So what I got pasted by ONE vehicle that was speeding. Just like 2 days ago I rolled past a roll over vehicle accident where the driver was driving too fast and couldn't make the next corner. Needless to say the driver was seriously injured and the vehicle is totaled. 3 Days ago on a single lane dirt road there was a vehicle accident once again driving too fast and there was no where to go. BAM! Remember I work with the emergency services and see all the many ways of destroying vehicles. So what if I drive slow so what... I've not had a single ticket in over 20 years now.But like I've proven man many times already... 55 MPH is much more efficient and in 20 miles of travel I'm only going to gain 3 minutes going 65 but lose roughly 5 MPG driving 10 MPH faster so why?At least EMS and Police won't find my truck rolled over and my family and I injured from speeding... I'm done...
  15. P0234 is a over boost code and is caused from a rusted wastegate. This is NOT a MAP sensor error. The MAP sensor is detecting overly high boost numbers and ECM is defueling to protect the engine. P0522 is basically the oil pressure sender has failed or there is a wiring issues. Hard start while hot is a sign of a torn VP44 diaphragm and fuel pressure makes the VP44 hypersensitive. So if you disconnect the Raptor when it does this and it fire up them its confirmed and your going to need to do the lift pump relay mod.
  16. You might get a Youtube account and try it there. Also processing the video file down typically reduces the size of the video file and makes it easier for some picture/video site to handle it better. Heck... Using Ubuntu Linux 12.04, KDEnLive to process the video, and upload to Youtube I'm sure you can do it.
  17. I can't complain... It only 1/2 ton axle (dodge axle) with Load Range C tires. That load was a bit wet and heavy had the trailer axle pinned to the stops. I've piled on bigger loads of dry wood. Just this picture was the first one I grabbed out of the picture album on the site. But back to the thread. There is a reason, design, and purpose for each style of trailer and hitch. They all have pluses and minuses to each one. Might now be a bad idea of listing some of these pluses and minuses for a RV / Trailer article about each style of hitch and trailer. Like my RV I choose a bumper pull for the simple reason I could load my ATV in the bed of the truck and still haul the trailer. With a 5th or goose I would lose the bed for hauling once again then have to haul doubles. Then there is a good chunk of camping areas I would have trouble in because of length. As for utility trailer like a car hauler if I was to buy one I would clearly go for a gooseneck myself because then I could use a turn over ball and still never have to mess with rails or 5th wheel frame in the bed. As for my little 8x8 utility trailer that was a $5 trailer I bought years ago. The only thing change was the pickup box (junked) and the flat bed was built and added a storage box for chainsaws and tools. I made that trailer because it follows the exact path of the truck through the woods and rather easy to maneuver through the trees getting firewood. Has the same axle height so if the truck clear the trailer will too. Then yes I could pile on the weight but with grades as steep as 16% in some roads in just not a good idea to over load or over pile the wood on the trailer. I've got a nasty dent/crease in the rear bumper from a large round falling out of the trailer and hitting the rear bumper. I like to haul loads without damaging the truck or trailer.
  18. The name had me thrown too. I though for sure it was outside the USA. I've got a few members from other countries (Germany, Europe, Mexico, etc.) I just really starting to wonder what new country I was able to put a thumb tack on... :think:Ahhh... But it only New york... :kick:But still welcome to the family.
  19. I just lay the $100 bucks on the table the rest is covered. The worst part is I got to drive clear to Boise or Ontario, OR typically for new glass like the last 2 that been replaced one in Ontario, OR and the other in Payette, ID. Price and cost isn't my trouble its the time, travel, cordination with other projects, etc. I don't just drive 180 mile one way for just a windshield... I typically ball it up with several other projects.
  20. Typically it does mix well in warm temperatures but in colder temperatures it might just drop to the bottom. Stirring the fuel wouldn't hurt a bit. But I wouldn't stress it to much being the diesel fuel is a mild lubricant and its not like your starting with gasoline or alcohol. So pour it in and take it for a ride by the time you get back to the shop it should be stirred up for ya.
  21. Actually had to take care of a project with Adams Co. Sheriff and a few other personal things in Council, ID and head home. Yeah Soda's out here are a long day's drive...
  22. What's funny I was doing speed limit that stretch of road is only 55 MPH. It just broke this winter and my insurance company already knows about it I just waiting till all the highway are swept clean for the spring. So since in replacing the glass to have another trucker break it. In Idaho its not illegal till the crack in is the vision path. Mine is low on the glass so local police hasn't said a thing about when I went to the last four search & rescue meeting in Idaho co.
  23. I got a crazy idea of grabbing my video camera and figure I would try to record on time lapse setting of 1 sec per frame and see what happens. Well it turned out pretty good and you get to see more of Idaho as a blur... Google map of the trip. http://goo.gl/maps/sQpRh http-~~-//youtu.be/k7g6O0BXBbI
  24. Something a bumper pull can do... No sacrificing the bed space for 5th wheels or a goose neck. But for heavy haul like you do Mr. Mindless yes gooseneck or 5th wheel is the better option being the weight is all on the axle not the bumper. But even CajFlynn tend to show off some serious load on a bumper pull.
