A lighter subject
Fire Station 1 - Pinehurst - My Home station with Engine 1 the cracker box and my 1 ton Chevy 6.5L diesel brush truck. I know this is the wrong picture but close enough. Firewood harvesting. Some years I get lucky to sell some firewood for some extra funds. One of my favorite fire trucks is the 2 1/2 ton military trucks. This one happens to be 1000 gallon water tender for up at station 2. Man that is one fun truck to drive even off road. Another pic of firewood gather from last summer... Pic of Engine 11 back on the Poe Cabin fire looking north from White Water Wilderness. Then the office where all web site work is done...

It's funny you happen to say that. I'll repeat again... I've never been to school for diesel engines and I'm not ASE certified. So why am I so knowledgeable? Because of reading and listening to all the different tales of people nation wide fixing there trucks. They admit their mistakes and what they manage to fix. Then there is wonderful people like ISX, wild and Free and other that push it that extra step and throw even more technical information into the pot. More or less keep asking questions and we'll keep trying to find answers.

Off the grid retirement?
There is a lot of different places available here in Idaho. You could try... http://www.blevinsrealestate.com/ It's a good friend of mine Carolyn friend. As for firewood I typically go out to the old forest fire areas and collect the slightly burnt trees for firewood. I'm solely wood heating. I'm just about self contained on power. (Solar, Hydro, Gasoline power generator, and batteries). Let's saty I've learned how to live on less than 30 Amps of 120 VAC power and do it all the time.

If you get lost in the woods, what do you do?
Ok. As far as the GPS usage goes I would say start out learning by doing Geo-caching... http://www.geocaching.com/ As for Maps I would always use both GPS and maps together. The what if the battery die, or I drop and break the GPS. Etc. GPS are great tools but don't let them be come a crutch. Like other have mention use line of sight to other large features. Like for me its using the Seven Devils Peaks. It's the highest mountain peak in the area just close to 9,000 feet. So that's a land feature you can't miss. I've been known to flag trees with flagging or stack stones or carve marks in the dirt with my boot heel or ATV tires in the direction of travel. This makes it nice to follow back out. Been here... http://goo.gl/maps/xE7vI

If you get lost in the woods, what do you do?
Hmmm... I'm not too worried.* GPS* maps* 9mm pistol* Cold weather clothing (gloves, jacket, socks, hat, etc.)* Safety Yellow jacket* Safety yellow sweat jacket* 1 gallon of water (1/2 gal in pack and typically 1/2 gal on the ATV)* AA batteries* Head lamp* MRE* Matches* Multi-tool* toilet paper* flashlight* Rain Poncho* Flagging tapeWhen I leave the Dodge Cummins to head out in the woods by foot or with a ATV I was grab my SAR's pack behind my driver seat.As for travelling Idaho the rule of thumb typically is to head down. Any time you head down the mountain more times out of ten you'll cross a road, trail, creek or something. If you find a creek follow it down it should bring you back to a main drainage. (Salmon River or Snake River)Like last night we left the scene in a hurry to get to the fire call and just about started second guessing the road we were on and thought we made a wrong turn. Come to find out we was on the right road and just the dark changes the perception of the land. Like 2 nights ago I went to my fire meeting. I parked the fire truck out by the main road and walk up to the shed. Well never the less I turn the corner of the building it was so dark I could not see to walk. I had a pike pole in my hand and was using it like a blind man's cane. Thank gawd. Because it went clank as it hit another vehicle. Stood still for a bit and then got my night vision and barely see the dim glow of the yellow of the truck. Yeah! So out here at night you sit still.

What is the original intent of government?
@ HexOrzI see your point too. Your so right the Gov't has to quit being our nanny and let us fall on our face. How else are we going to learn from our mistakes? Also being that the entitlements are much better than working why work? So now you got a entire country for of people that won't even think for themselves. Truely sad. What happen to all the great thinkers and dreamer that design and produced things? Oh that's right Gov't entitlements are so good why think... Just lay back on the couch with a bag of potato chips and watch movies all day. From my side of the fence I gave up TV nearly 10 years ago. We yanked out the satellite dish and maybe watch a DVD movie now and then but most of the time both MoparMom and myself would rather study and gain knowledge than watch a idiot box. One of the small sacrifices we've done. Like I had a conversation with a friend of mine from the Fire Dept. like I told him I hate the idea of even asking for unemployment or anything from the Gov't. I had a girlfriend way back when that had a son and she use to file for food stamps and the whole bit. I found out what it like to have the Gov't peering into you life. I swore that I would never do that again. Even myself today no matter how hard things get with the economy I always push forward and manage to find a day job doing something. Might be just hurdling cows, to working on computers, building / repairing web sites, to fixing vehicles. I never want to be the one with my hand out asking for free ride. So coming back to the topic. The fact is too many people in the US just would rather have the easy way of collecting the entitlements... But some of use small percent actually fight to stay away from it.

Wood score!
I got my trailer hitched up and one rebuilt chainsaw (Sthl 046) and and a brand new saw (Sthl 461). I bet if you leave that lay long enough I'll be smiling with 30 cords. :lmao2:Seriously that a killing stash of wood I would get busy and get the cleaned up now and get it seasoned and dried.

Should I?? 6.7 L?
I've got a local guy here that has a new 6.7L as well and he's not too happy with it being the 6.7L only getting barely 12-13 MPG driving locally here in the canyon. No problems to report as of yet but he want to do the delete as well.Personally I see the 6.7L like the going from the age of muscle cars to 80's of unleaded and catalytic converters. Now we come two full circles in vehicles. I plan on holding on to my 2002 for a very long time like I did for the 1973 Dodge Charger which I sold last year.

Double trouble night for me.I was called out on the Search & Rescue and hauled out 9 miles in the back country to find a local gent that rolled his ATV and broke his hip. His son was with him and kept him warm and safe. My buddy James and myself show up with a EMT and she starts to deal with him. Then I grab onto another Sheriff and went and setup a landing zone for LifeFlight. Then it was a waiting game for Lifeflight. After Liftflight showed up then it was time to pack him to the landing zone. As they did that me and group of guys rolled his ATV over and we started towing it out. Then the call came for a grass fire near us. Oh Great! So James, Alan on each side of the rear rack and me driving haul tail down the mountain and I drop Alan off at his truck and I book with James down the highway about 1 miles to find... another friend of mine have a nice bonfire burning his yard trash and everyone drinking beer. So we call off the Salmon River Rural Fire Dept and return back to the IC camp of the Search & Rescue. I file my paperwork and now came home. I'm tired...:sleep:As for the OP your welcome.

What is the original intent of government?
I don't think the church failed its role. I think that the entitlements from the government looked better than the entitlements of the church and everyone flocked to the government side. Church was willing to help with food and clothing but thats about it. But when you can get all your bills paid, a free cell phone, food card, medical, etc. on the government side, why not? Like down in Donnelly, ID the local church is still running a small food bank every Tuesday feeding the hungry people of the area. They have food and clothing and some house goods but that's it. I think where the fall over comes from is looking for free medical coverage of some sort. So looking from this angle the Church can only do so much but the people want everything. Whats really upsetting is I had a store manager tell me she can make more money and have more benefits on unemployment than she does currently working her current job. Now there is something wrong with this picture isn't there? This is why so many people are attached to the government roles now. But going back toward the right side... Every man that works an honest day will earn an honest day's pay. I surely don't see that from the unemployment. But the citizens are sure taxed heavily to pay for the lazy ones that do nothing.

Lucas transmission fluid conditioner?
That's another possible option that might happen too. Kind of like why I say not to mix fuel additives together because the mixing of different thing may impact in a positive or negative way.

Bought Centech OBD2 harbor Freight scanner
That should work for you. Just make sure to get a good error code list for each vehicle. Typically people get into trouble just looking at a generic error code list and could be very mis-leading. Even worse when the scan tool has the generic text definitions. I rather have the P number and look up each vehicles service manual and know Dodge's definition vs. Hyundai definitions.

Drop fuel tank or lift bed?

Lucas transmission fluid conditioner?
I tend to stay away from fluid additives personally. I think that if there is a problem with the trans like slippage I would rather find the cause of it that hope for a cure in bottle. Some like yourself got lucky once but will lightning hit twice in the same spot. Ummm???

Drop fuel tank or lift bed?
On my truck I got to drop the drive-shaft because the carrier bearing bracket just barely covers the front tank band. So the carrier bearing is dropped but I found a secret too. If drop the shaft and tie it to the passenger side with a bungee or similar you can gain a bunch of room and sit up under the truck and move pretty good. As for the tank in that picture its completely empty.

The only reason is the synthetic doesn't have PPD (pour point depressant) so it won't do any thing for winter gelling... Then the only other thing is price if your willing to run it go for it... It does work and it does lube... Just short the PPD and the price is higher.

Injector Sizes And Turbo Discussion. . .
There is a rather good thread over at Comp D web site where a guy went through and cut injector nozzles in half and shown the differences in different nozzles and spray patterns. Personally I heard the same thing 40-75 HP is the best range of MPG. But there is the rare time where people have managed 100 and bigger injectors and still manged good MPG's numbers. But I would say the MPG numbers or based how good the spray pattern is and how fast you can convert fuel to vapor to get it to ignite fast and completely. I just had phone call from gent that done serious changes to his engine and with 150 HP injectors it now so smoky that it actually smoking black at idle. So its possible to get to wild and go the wrong way too. So be careful and do your bench testing before just leaping out for big injectors.

Best truck jacking
I use a 3.5 ton floor jack which happens to be a speedy lift jack which the first pump the arm is already touching the axle. Then from there just a about 6-9 more pumps I'm off the floor. I'll jack stand the front axle use the jack on the rear axle and I can do 4 wheel tire rotation.

Batteries Again grrrrr
Thing is discharging a battery below 11.0 or so really takes a huge chunk of life out of it. since I got a weird habit of keeping my key on a belt clip and I feel naked without the keys rattling on my hip so being locked out of my truck or house is not common for me. Same goes leaving my key on in the ignition. What's odd though is that I spent all last fire season doing road guard duty at night with the ACC mode on and listening to the radio for over 12 hours through the night. No issues here. But I've never really measured the load on the ON position.

Another tidbit about MPG's.
As I said I give up... Closed.

Code P0237: My diagnosis- What do you think?
More than likely there is a problem with the Quadzilla XZT boost fooler being the code is present with the XZT hooked up but the light goes out after unhooking it. P1698 is a CCD network error.
