  1. @jlbayes would be a good one to ask. Another is @TFaoro he should know as well.
  2. I'm pretty sure it programmed into both the PCM and ECM. Being the 2000 and 2001 both are known to report only PCM error codes where the ECM was missing the code to report it errors. You have to remember the master computer is the PCM and the ECM is just a companion module.
  3. I really don't like putting any wiring directly on the battery terminals. After a while you have this hairy mess of wires all going to the battery. Like myself I pulled a single ground lead into the cab. Then pulled a single power lead from the PDC. The reason I got away from this is all the ring terminals eventually fail from corrosion issues. So if you mount everything away from the battery this problem stops.
  4. Like this time around I looked at your signature... 2001 Cummins will have the HY35 turbo... The biggest choke point is your HY35 turbo with a 9cm2 housing compared to HX35 with a 12cm2 housing. This would reduce EGT's more than 4" exhaust.
  5. We've got the seal kits here.
  6. Basically if you clear the codes and the P1688 returns the VP44 is done.
  7. I've never bothered to pull the oil fitting off the vacuum pump. If the fitting is national pipe thread then it should be self-sealing. If the thread is straight then there should be a o-ring or seal of some sort.
  8. Went from 3" to 4" and ZERO change in EGT's. Tunning on the Quadzilla does more to change EGT's than exhaust does. Drone is louder. The exhaust brake is louder. I did a 4" Diamond Eye Aluminized exhaust system with muffler. Cruising is quiet. Power band pulling up grades there is a spot where drone gets loud in the cab. Then every time I break over the top of Midvale grade and start hitting the exhaust brake coming down the back side its rather on the loud side.
  9. I've never messed with my fuel pickup module. I use an old school draw straw for 12 years. Less problems with breaking plastic parts that you can no longer replace. So I thought that was part of the OEM basket at first look but now looking again yeah I see it now.
  10. Those are good too. I'm running the DAP +75HP (7x0.0085 VCO) injectors. Without a tuner they might be a bit too smokey. Basically about the same amount of power as a Edge EZ or Smarty would provide +10-15 HP over.
  11. I've had good luck with both RV275 Bosch injectors and Vulcan Performance +50 HP injectors.
  12. Safe to drive but the file economy will be lowered. In a nutshell how these engines work is your compressing air enough to create the heat. Then injecting fine atomized fuel into the heated air to make it go bang. So when the injectors wear out the injector pop pressure opens early. So stock is suppose to be at 4,500 PSI +/- 250 PSI. Now the injector is opening early the spray is not atomized good so there is a smoky haze because the heat isn't enough to make all the fuel burn completely. The most you might notice is a offbeat or miss idle when hot this is the injectors causing this.
  13. Injectors are most likely shot. Typically have to replace 100-150k miles. Typically the blue haze could be either fuel that is not burning or like in my case it valve guide seal that are failing. But valve guide only let off a single puff of blue smoke and it smells like burning oil. Since you not talking about a burning oil smell I would have to stick to the injectors are worn out.
  14. Thank you sir. You post will expire in one year so make sure to review it again in a year. You can contact one of the staff and they can renew the listing. This is done so if you happen to fall away from the family then you don't end up with people calling you.
  15. Then the only thing that comes to mind is the injectors are getting wore out and pissy. How many miles on the truck?
  16. Yeah you do. The old post over on CF was of the P1693 code was because the 2000 and 2001 would report the P1693 code and nothing more for a failed VP44. This because Cummins didn't have the code added in the ECM for the key trick so Dodge PCM typically always had it but the 98.5 and 99 didn't get the key trick. The order it read codes is ALWAYS PCM first then ECM (companion module). Even on the 2002 it reports P_PCU and P_ECU in that order. Just for information value. Disconnecting the batteries does not clear any codes ore reset any computers.
  17. This is why I want as many people to post there contact details in the 911 contact listing. This way if you have a failure somewhere you can get support from other members in the area even if it a safe place to say while you do the repair. https://mopar1973man.com/cummins/911-support.html/contacts/
  18. Look right there in your photo. Right at 6 o'clock on the black plastic ring. What does it say... ABS... Glare of the camera really makes that pop out.
  19. I would have to say its most likely a VP44. The only data that is screwy is the data from the VP44. All other data you have posted from the ECM has shown to be in good working order but the VP44 communication error and the wild data from the VP44 is strange. You tested from end to end with 0 ohms. The VP44 volts could be a bad fuel pump relay. You can swap the horn relay with the fuel pump relay and see if that fixes anything. The VP44, ECM and PCM all get there ground from the passenger side battery terminal. You might talk to @W-T about his ground wire post.
  20. I'm curious do you have P0216 code? Remember some codes do NOT trip the CEL.
  21. 1998.5 and 1999 do not work. 2000 and 2001 may or may not read both typically just the PCM. 2002 will display both PCM and ECM codes.
  22. Stock VP44 injection pumps are just fine. You just need to make sure you are getting a pump that is by a certified Bosch rebuilder.
  23. Makes sense. ECM is commanding max fuel because the VP44 RPM is too low. So you've got a communication issues between the ECM and VP44.
  24. @dripley in your case the gauge pegs because of lack of ground. @snowshoveler In your case, the P0238 code is most likely a bad ground on the MAP sensor or bad MAP sensor. The P1689 code is worrying me a bit. I would try trading the fuel pump relay in the PDC with like the horn. The weird part is the VP44 is allowing it to start so the fuel pump relay is most likely fine. You going to end up testing the Bus wires between the ECM and the VP44.
