  1. I've been running a Edge Comp on 5x3 or 5x5 for years even towing. I'm right at about 16k to 18k most times. All the data logging I've done I can clear 11-13 MPG most trips at 55-65 MPH more so in the mountains and windy roads. Here is my high marks of the run on 5x3 on the Edge Comp as well as my MPG logs. As you'll notice the HP number will not climb as high towing but the torque number is way up. I didn't reset my trip on the last tank of fuel its was apartial so I don't bother on those. IAT is high in this one because of exhaust braking to home when I snapped the screen shot. The stray 43 MPG again I fired the tablet up and didn't drive far and shut down... Disregard that entry... I ran with the RV on the 30th.
  2. This why I suggest to most to look at the live data first before attempting to guess at sensors... If I pull my tablet this morning and showed some of my screen captures I could show you a wide range of temperatures ECT, IAT and other sensor data that most wouldn't expect.
  3. I've got an idea on a "One Wire Dead Man's Switch". Basically takes control of the fuel pump relay ground lead and very easy to do. Since its a one wire very easy to stash and the switch can be hidden anywhere making it a fool proof anti-start system for the truck. You could do some wire magic and run two wires and try the horns to the ignition switch so every time they attempt to crank the ignition the horn blows. No start yet... LOL.

  7. That half the problem as you continue to build power in these truck there is always something between the engine and the tires that is weaker. Mine happened to be the main shaft of the NV4500 and it broke off at the 3rd/4th syncro. I've already got a Dana 80 rear so solid there. The half of the battle is getting the fuel and boost right across the entire range of throttle. As injectors get bigger you need more boost pressure to create enough heat in the cylinder during compression to convert the liquid fuel to vapor to make it go BANG! Same token you need the air cool enough that it doesn't drive the EGT through the roof either. I think there is a limitation on how far you can go because of cam, porting of the head etc. Yeah I know you can run bigger turbos or twins but still in all gotta clean up the loses along the way in designing high HP engines.

  9. I would not use that stuff at all. Just use the fluid designed for your system and change it at the proper time. I'm going to cross 300k miles and still got my factory power steering pump and gear box yet... No leaks.
  10. Actually its the low pressure return line you unhook. Then pump it out of the return line into a waste bucket. I normally go lock to lock with the front axle jacked up to attempt to push out as much of the old fluid. Then once that is done then flush on load of fluid through to clean up a bit. Then rehook and fill and top off. After this point shut it down allow the foam to settle before driving.
  11. I'm in accuracy and data logging. The only way I can find out if modification work properly is to study the trend over a 12 month period. So if your data logging from a broken or inaccurate device then your efforts are all for naught. Kind of like measuring with your thumb, hands, and strides. Like I use to be without all the gadgets too. When I started back at 20k miles I started tracking fuel usage in a written hand log. Then learn more as I started with the ScanGauge II. I found out the day to day MPG is greatly different that just a tank MPG. Then after installing a temp gauge and custom location of the sensor I got a better measurement of outside out temp that the overhead in my 96 Dodge. Now I put together the impact of the outside air temp vs. IAT vs. MPG. So comparing the overhead in the 96 to the PanaPacific the PanaPacific was much closer to correct temperature while moving. Like I've got the compass in the 96 Dodge and never look at that... I use my Garmin more so again looking for accurate numbers of speed and distance. I know the speedometer is incorrect in the 96 Dodge makes a difference in data logging in that vehicle and make the MPG number correct. It would drive me crazy to look up and seem some lame 30-35 MPG number because of my mods. Hence why I'm so against the overhead display. I've seen several trucks with fuel mods and lame numbers in the overhead. So to show correction factor to get flow rate display correctly for either ScanGauge II or OBDLink on the 2002 Cummins is 14.5% offset to report OBDII data of fuel flow rate. As for the 1996 Dodge that requires 233% offset to correct fuel flow rate because of the Mopar Performance PCM I'm running. This is something that can't be done to correct the data on the stock overhead. Funny to see the unaltered numbers on the 96 because it reports like 47-53 MPG.
  12. What I don't get is the trouble of transferring from one vehicle to another for what? Outside temp and compass? We already know the trip computer won't be right. Strange enough people continue to keep installing them in their trucks. Like I get more data off my Garmin 42LM than the overhead compass. I can get degrees, direction, miles to destination, directions to the destination, etc. As for the trip computer if you are not completely stock and everything just right the data is skewed. Being MPG equal speed divided by GPH flow rate. (MPG = MPH/GPH) So being that most have fueling mods the GPH flow rate is skewed and if you are running a oversized tires the distance or speed is skewed so the MPG and DTE is all wrong. Like using both ScanGauge II and the OBDLink LX both provide much more for trip data than the stock trip computer. There is no way to calibrate that feature to oversize tires or larger injectors. So now then outside temp that's OK. Like myself, I got a wonderful gift long ago. That PanaPacific Gauge is the next thing above that overhead display. Inside and outside temperatures, history max & min for both inside and outside, set alarm temps for either inside or out. Then it's got a clock and alarm clock as well so if you want to take a quick nap and alerted say in 30 minutes or in a hour you can set the alarm clock. I'll admit none of this will fit in the overhead spot but there is lot of other options that will provide much better data and information than the stock overhead computer not that expensive but the data data is more valuable.
  13. AC noise issues can affect any vehicle with computers / electronics. The thing is AC noise issues manifest in different way for each vehicle and generation. Like a Chrysler Pacifica it will show up as a speedometer error. It will show speed even though you not moving. Like my truck is manual and it affect the cruise control with surging up and down.
  14. Weird part is that valve only was on a few years of trucks and then disappeared again. It was like let's see if we can do this better? Nope... Just yank the valve back off because it made things either worse or created issues.
  15. Now being its electronic device failure did you do a AC noise test? I do see any results of a AC noise test done. Don't risk your new PCM to the damaging AC noise problems. Funny so many people thing that they can escape the electronics of the 24V system by going back to a 12 valve trucks or p-pumping 24 valved trucks. Still is other electronic modules and an alternator. As long as there are electronic devices and alternator present then electronic device can fail from AC noise issues.

  17. Absolutely Yes... It will be way off. Most likely yes. Being it was not functional then moving truck it will most likely be same way when you install it again. The only data that the overhead gets is the fuel level, GPH flow rates, and speed from the CCD network. As for the compass its internal to the console. Myself I wouldn't even bother... Invest a lot of time installing a display that won't even work or even be close to right.
  18. I've also got a business venture getting started in New Meadows, Idaho soon. The land owner is planning on building a 4,800 foot shop soon. Half of this will be tack room for his live stock. The other half is going to be a two bay shop. The original idea was to build it for maintaining his truck fleet for his business. The offer opened up a bit more now and might have my own shop to do work on the side. I'm not holding my breath right now. The building still not even built nor started as of yet. Plans and ideas are on the books though...
  19. Just remember if you have any fueling mods or tire changes the trip computer will be worthless. This why I never bothered with the swap. Knowing I planned on modifying everything I wanted a trip computer that could be calibrated.

  24. Hey Gang... Things have been busy around here last few weeks. I had @Taz come up from Walla Walla, WA and help me get my winter firewood in and also do a few minor repairs on his truck for him. He was here for 7 days. So even did a bit of carpentry work for MoparMom re-hanging a door on the old kitchen closet. In between all this, I found a wonderful a girlfriend. Her name is Sherri Andrews. Here in the near future I'll get her on the site and you can met her as well. So some of my time is now shifted to talking to her when I can. Then my other job I've Cummins Engine to shoe horn back in a 2005 Dodge truck this next week. I'm just waiting for my partner to get home from his job and we'll get busy on that next. Just seem like the days are all washing together...
