  4. Mike, be carful who paints it. Auto body/paint production shops like Macco and the like will put the cheapest paint on. The paint will look good for about 6-12 months then fade and lose it's shine, compounding or waxing will not bring it back. It all depends on the quality of paint and the experience/care of the painter. I've seen good paint costing over $400/gl. I've seen paint jobs where the parts sticker was still on the body panel and painted over. That tells me the prep man didn't prep the car and either the painter was blind or didn't care.
  5. Don't know, never had to measure it on the truck but it should be about the same as other vehicles to keep memory for radio, ECM, PCM (if needed) and clock going . There may be a light on, a door or mirror switch stuck on. A small light will draw 3+ amps.
  6. If a wire was pinched then there would be either and open circuit with no draw or a shorted to ground circuit which would either blow a fuse or start a fire. Is this 2.8 and 4.6mA or 28 and 46mA, most normal parasitic draws I see around 50mA Is the fuse you're talking about here?
  7. Don't know until you try but I use it for setting up differential ring gear patterns. A coating of white lithium grease might work also, I use that from time to time for checking contact points when adjusting hood or door catches.
  8. Dykem Steel Blue might wok for that.
  9. Did the clerk ask if you wanted fries with that battery test? I like to see 12.4 + volts, below that i feel the battery is on the weak side. 12.2 volts is a low state of charge for a 2 year battery but most wet cell batteries are only good for 3-4 years. The warranty that you get with a battery is a scam. The company charges extra for that 60-72 month or more warranty with the knowledge that when most people replace the battery in their vehicle they either sell it before that battery gives them trouble or they don't keep the receipt so the selling store doesn't have to honor the warranty. If you do happen to keep the receipt and the battery goes out in the last year of the warranty what they give you for the prorate isn't worth the extra you paid for that 60-72 month battery.

I agree that a clock spring will not cause it. If you disconnect the steering column from the steering box do not rotate it more than two turns or you will run the risk of braking the clock spring. Make sure the clock spring is in the same position when you put it together as when you disconnected it. You can either mark everything and keep track of any column movement, lock up the column or disconnect the batteries remove the air bag, steering wheel and clock spring.
  12. The truck, 5th wheel and boat is15k lb and with the mods you see in my signature there is no problem going up an 8 mile 6% grade at 55-60 MPH. I lock out O/D and lock up the torque converter with the mystery switch, engage the cruise control sit back and let the truck do its thing. The mystery switch locking up the converter and 3ed gear is good for helping to control down hill speed too like on the Sherwin grad, 395 south of Mammoth Mountain CA.
  13. Take prepaid orders, when you have enough do a product run. If you don't get the needed deposits to have a low cost per unit run in say 3 to 6 months then return the money. You can all ways hawk your wares at the August solar eclipse meet and greet.
  14. Sounds like the starter solenoid contacts are going bad. Check out LarryB's http://www.fostertruck.com/auto-starter-parts.html As for the radio, you are going to need a priest to perform an exorcism on it. If I remember right the red wire is switched power and the yellow wire is constant battery power. Check these two and be sure the yellow is not feeding power to the red.
  15. 53 block here with just over 91k on it. Edge EZ and towing a 5th wheel most of the time. I think after 17 years if it was going to leak it would have done it by now. I worry more about the APPS or the vp44 going bad than anything else.
  16. Does the timing move, advance/retard, when you insert the jumper into the blue connector and move the ignition distributor? Is the timing now to far advanced or retarded? Does the engine still ping under acceleration?
  17. At 65 Medicare kicks in but you still have to pay some to the Feds for it. I think my wife pays a little over $140/mo. Then there is the part B Insurance that covers what Medicare doesn't. That can run hundreds of dollars a month.
  18. Another thing that come in handy is a length of 16-14 AGW wire 4-5ft long with small alligator clips at each end. This can be used to bypass suspected open circuits, run power to a system or use as and extension of the probes for the meter to a point in a circuit that is not readily accessible.
  19. This is do to 'Global Warming' and is abnormal for this time of year. Freezing/snowing weather is unheard of in the winter. Since it is not warming well call this Climate Change. Live it, Love it, Find a way to tax it. As for San Diego area highs around 70° F and lows 50°F with light rain showers my be on Monday.
  20. Correction: It's 52 degrees F for Southern Californians to start shivering. People start wearing winter coats when it gets below 60° F.
  21. What is this snow and cold you speak of? I just got back from servicing two Volvos while wearing a short sleeve shirt and a pair of shorts. The number of times I've seen it snow at my house---never!
