  1. I figured that'd be a "no brainer" for you Mike!!! No matter the 2 or 4 legged critters!!! Glad you enjoyed!!!
  2. The Gun Is Civilization In light of the tragic events of last week in Arizona, and the stringent cries from gun-control advocates for tougher laws, we felt this essay, written by an anonymous marine and circulated through email during the early part of 2010, to be a timely piece that needed revisiting. Leaving citizens unarmed is not the answer to tragic incidents like the one that killed several innocent bystanders and critically wounded a sitting congresswoman. You cannot have a civilized society when the only people armed are the predators and law-breakers that prey on the weak and defenseless. --- Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. If you want me to do something for you, you have a choice of either convincing me via argument, or force me to do your bidding under threat of force. Every human interaction falls into one of those two categories, without exception. Reason or force, that’s it. In a truly moral and civilized society, people exclusively interact through persuasion. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some. When I carry a gun, you cannot deal with me by force. You have to use reason and try to persuade me, because I have a way to negate your threat or employment of force. The gun is the only personal weapon that puts a 100-pound woman on equal footing with a 220-pound mugger, a 75-year old retiree on equal footing with a 19-year old gang banger, and a single guy on equal footing with a carload of drunk guys with baseball bats. The gun removes the disparity in physical strength, size, or numbers between a potential attacker and a defender. There are plenty of people who consider the gun as the source of bad force equations. These are the people who think that we’d be more civilized if all guns were removed from society, because a firearm makes it easier for a [armed] mugger to do his job. That, of course, is only true if the mugger’s potential victims are mostly disarmed either by choice or by legislative fiat – it has no validity when most of a mugger’s potential marks are armed. People who argue for the banning of arms ask for automatic rule by the young, the strong, and the many, and that’s the exact opposite of a civilized society. A mugger, even an armed one, can only make a successful living in a society where the state has granted him a force monopoly. Then there’s the argument that the gun makes confrontations lethal that otherwise would only result in injury. This argument is fallacious in several ways. Without guns involved, confrontations are won by the physically superior party inflicting overwhelming injury on the loser. People who think that fists, bats, sticks, or stones don’t constitute lethal force watch too much TV, where people take beatings and come out of it with a bloody lip at worst. The fact that the gun makes lethal force easier works solely in favor of the weaker defender, not the stronger attacker. If both are armed, the field is level. The gun is the only weapon that’s as lethal in the hands of an octogenarian as it is in the hands of a weight lifter. It simply wouldn’t work as well as a force equalizer if it wasn’t both lethal and easily employable. When I carry a gun, I don’t do so because I am looking for a fight, but because I’m looking to be left alone. The gun at my side means that I cannot be forced, only persuaded. I don’t carry it because I’m afraid, but because it enables me to be unafraid. It doesn’t limit the actions of those who would interact with me through reason, only the actions of those who would do so by force. It removes force from the equation… and that’s why carrying a gun is a civilized act.
  3. Yeah, they thought it was unfair tactics during war, because they couldn't smell the enemy from more than a mile away!!!!!!
  4. CajFlynn, How many miles?????? Keep on truckin'!!!
  5. Sorry, I just had to!!!
  6. When I had my '99, I kept 70psi in the fronts and rears on the OEM LT245/75 16E Michelins and the Cooper Discoverer AT's in LT265/75 16E's. Then, as now, I usually have a trailer of some kind in tow and don't like airing up and down all the time. With the tight/heavy suspension on these trucks, I think it rides better with "hard" tires.
  7. My 04.5 doesn't smoke(black) at all unless I put my foot down...............Then she'll blot out the highway. My truck does the white smoke/steam first thing in the AM when it's cold or very damp outside. Black smoke=extra fuel..................leaky injectors, or bigger injectors and not enough air.
  8. The 12V trucks get better mileage mainly because of the higher compression ratio and the lack of pollution ____ in the exhaust system!!!! The 12 valvers were the original "torque monsters" as far as light truck towing goes. Heck, 460ft.lbs. right off idle........ain't no gasser gonna do that!!!In order to be more "car like" and "environment friendly", the Cummins engineers (due to EPA regulations) have been decreasing the compression ratio, adding valves, increasing boost, retarding timing, adding multiple injection events, adding exhaust crap, etc. over the last 20 years to make our "TRUCKS" drive more carlike and to theoretically decrease pollution!!! I won't go into specifics here.........but the 24 valve Cummins are capable of great mileage when driven so and with the right mods. If I drive my 04.5 with the mods in my signature at 65mph I can honestly say that I'll get between 19 and 22 mpg.....................the most dependent factors being temperature and wind direction!!! That's empty driving.............no load in the truck and no trailer towing.Cruising the various websites, the guys that _____ and moan about mileage the most are the ones that almost always say that if I drive 65mph on the Interstate, I'll get my doors blown off!!!! In all honesty, I don't care if they pass me doing 200mph on the Interstate.............for me, to drive faster than 65mph on the interstate, in traffic, weaving in and out, is "HUGELY STRESSFUL". I find myself more at ease letting everyone pass me...........rather than worry about me passing the butthead in front of me while I've got some ******* on my trailer hitch trying to pass me!!!!!! That's why I get good/great mileage on my 04.5 Common Rail Cummins.................because I don't give a rats ___ about anyones opinion that I drive "too slow"!!!!!Rant off!!!
  9. Check my latest avatar!!!! Daddy(black) and daughter(chocolate)!!!
  10. I saw a new Dodge commercial last week. It was a generic type commercial for the gassers and the Cummins Dodges. However, I saw a winch hitch inside the grill on one of the trucks. Is that an option on the Dodges now??? Ain't no way you could "shoehorn" one in on my truck where they had this one at in the commercial!!!

It's moving the fuel tank vent to a "higher" location so that you can get more fuel in the tank. The reasoning behind this is that...............it's the same tank when the truck is built whether it's a gasser or diesel. With a gas truck you have to allow some expansion room for the expansion of the liquid fuel as well as the vapor. And since gasoline vaporizes way more readily than diesel fuel, you need a "buffer"/ extra tank space to accomodate the gasoline vapors. Diesel fuel doesn't vaporize as readily as gasoline does, so we can use the extra tank space for fuel. Crawl under your truck and look at the fuel tank. It's not just a square box, but it's a staggered layered compartment. By moving the vent to a higher location on the tank, you can fill the tank with more fuel!! There's a couple companies that make kits for this, or you can do a search here for the parts needed. I'm pretty sure it's in the archives!!! If not, Mike will know where to point you!!In my opinion, this is the best mod I've done to my 04.5!!!

According to my manual, it's a 34 gallon tank because it's the short bed. That said, I've done the fuel tank vent mod and regularly fill up with 31-32 gallons..............and that's when the overhead Lie-O-Meter gets near zero + or - a bit. Prior to the fuel tank vent mod, when the overhead read zero, I'd fill up with only 28-29 gallons.
  13. Where is Winchester, VA???? I've got a cousin in Manassas, VA. Near there???
  14. Has he posted since the original thread???? Strange!!

Even this time of year, I'll get 525-550 miles per tank. In the warmer months, I regularly get 600-625 miles per tank. On average I'd say I get about 300 miles when the fuel gauge reads half empty/half full.On my best ever mileage tank this past August, Mighty Whitey had just over 400 miles on the tank when the gauge got to half. IIRC, that tank got me 73x miles on it for a 23.3mpg average.
  16. I've got about 6-8" on the ground here from earlier in the week. We're supposed to get flurries tonite ino tomorrow, and then the temps gonna go off the cliff and get really cold for the football game and next week. I'll take the snow and 0*F over the 90*F and humid any day!!!
  17. x3!!!!! I don't have a clue. If'n it were an earlier model, we might have a chance. Not so on the 3rd gens.:doh:That said, any codes come up??? Just a thought..........if so, it may lead us to the problem.
  18. My personal opinion here.........I see no real need for them. If you live anywhere's near civilization, it's impossible to get lost in this country unless you're a complete idiot. That said, we do use them in North Dakota and in SE Missouri waterfowling. The reason being that while scouting around if you find a place where the birds are that you've never been to in the day time............it's pretty darn hard to find it driving there in the early AM in the pitch blackness of those places!!!! There they come in handy. Out by Mike's........in the Frank Church.........yeah I'd carry one!!!But where I live.......not needed IMHO.
  19. I read about a few guys that do this on another site. I was wondering if anyone here does it. It makes sense to me, but I'd like the majority opinion from y'all!!!In really cold weather, they start their trucks, and then put the transfer case in Neutral. They then put the tranny in Drive, or if a manual in "direct".......4th or 5th depending on your tranny type. They claim it helps warm the truck a bit faster if you don't have an EB. I can definitely see how it would help a manual tranny warm up a bit.So what do you's guys think about it??
  20. Tell Mom that I'm a cheap arse and keep my house only warm enough to keep the pipes from freezing. It's real hard to "spoon" with a small dog...........hence my Labradors!!! They make great personal heaters!!!:lmao2: Not to mention also, that a cool house is a healthy house!!! Especially in the winter months!!!
  21. Mopar1973Man turned 40.ISX doesn't wear pants.Idaho is gonna have an earthquake.I need a bigger couch.CajFlynn turned 900,000 miles on his truck.Other than that, not much!!!!
