Hey all, I have a couple questions about shifting. My truck (maybe most vehicles? I've experienced this with other manual vehicles), is hard to get into 2nd when I'm rolling too fast, about 10-15 mph. Too fast to get into 2nd, too slow to use 3rd. Anyway, I recently finally discovered that if I bring the RPMs up, it will go in, not as nicely as normal, but a lot easier. Maybe I just need the RPMs higher still? Is this normal? Normal for a trans with 260k anyway lol. Also, when shifting, I have always gently released the skinny pedal while gently pressing in the clutch to avoid letting off the throttle too abruptly, and avoid the jolt you get if you press the clutch a…

Wondering what I can do to help lower transmission temps drastically. The other day I ran a little over 200 degrees pulling a 7 thousand pound trailer. (Built tranny with triple-disk TC, shift kit, and heavy duty bands.) Do you guys recommend transmission coolers/fans? Drop some links in the comments of products that you have or have opinions on. Thanks a bunch! Also, have you guys read about the new Smarty MM3 tuning for 98.5-02's?!?

I was just looking at your article on the OBDLink and have a couple questions. You say it gets fuel flow from boost; however, fuel flow at 10 psi and 1500 rpms is a lot different than 10 psi and 2500 rpms. Also 10 psi at 12° of timing is going to be different fuel flow than 10 psi at 8° of timing. So how accurate is it? What did the SGII use for fuel flow calculations? Your definition, and how to calculate, volumetric efficiency is based on your fuel tank yet volumetric efficiency has nothing to do with a fuel tank. Forced induction motors often have volumetric efficiency of over 90%. 63% sounds like a 5.9L gas Dodge Ram.…

2001.5 Dodge 2500. It's parked in stepdaughter's yard in Attleborough, Ma near Pawtucket, RI. I have a couple of days. It's leaking coolant at front of engine. It's pretty wet but the center of the wet is the water pump. I don't know who to take it to that I can trust. With my MS, I can not do my own work.

I have a weeping connection where my needle valve goes into a Tee. Is there something I can put on the treads to seal that? It is just enough that if it sits for anytime I have to bump the starter to prime the system? I have tightened it down as much as I'd like, anymore and something will give.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place but with 305k on the clock and the top end just being gone through and a new turbo install, I ask the question how long can we expect an oil pump to last? Mine is original to the best of my knowledge. It's a concern of mine only because certain items can't be allowed to fail without incurring copious amounts of extra money in damage to related parts (lift pump, turbo and so on) I am tempted just to replace it just because, but my old man has a point "let sleeping dogs lie" ie it has no signs of issue so why change it.....

I'm sure this is probably covered already somewhere in this forum but I'm unsure how to search without bringing up a ton of unrelated info. My question is, when I bought this pkp it came with an edge ez, and the boost elbow had never been installed. After I got my gauges installed I installed the boost elbow, which changed max boost from about 12-15 up to 21-22. Does this sound about right. Is this boost elbow somehow adjustable? Thanks for the help

Anyone know what size hose is required on turbo oil return. Mine looks like it's getting kinda porous. Is it something special or just a chunk of oil resistant hose. Thanks

As i coastef up different offramp, i had it in N and tried to start.cranked but no start. Stopped it, i turn key on,i hear a motor upfront. Try to start. Engine cranks, but doesnt start. W key on, i am reading no oil presure on OEM gauge. Well, needle just comes up a little but is still touching red zero line. Oil seems ok,…

Decided I got tired of shifting gears sold my manual setup and bought a auto setup. My truck is a 2000 bought everything from a late 99 truck. Got everything in and I am having issues. The truck will not shift on its own I have to do it manually, the OD off light stays on and won't let me change it along with the trans temp light goes off a couple of seconds after I start it and my trans temp shows 260 degrees on a cold start. I have a no bus communication about 20 seconds after start up. All of my gauges work fine without issues. I changed the PCM and wiring harness to trans with the 99 truck. Still have my manal ecm. I need all of the help I can get here anyone please…

(Sorry for all the "basic 101 questions" from a "new" member. My fuel system fell apart when out of town, after 10 years of service, the FASS feel apart. And out of town mechanic did a very poor job of putting on the Air Dog 100. Old mechanic feels betrayed I think. He did all my work and very good by the way. Since 2005. But now is punishing me I think. Wants 4 hours at $120 and hour to look over work done by out of town mechanic. 4 hours I think I could put on an AIr Dog myself by just watching videos. So I'm on the "fast track" to learn about these things fabulous 5.9's myself. Thanks)... Going to start with installing a Fuel Pressure gauge. In…

Hey guys, Most of you know that I recently did A LOT of work on my power steering system, including attempting to rebuild the gear box, which failed forcing me to replace it with a reman. Anyway my trucks steering has never been what I would call very bad, but it's always had the usual 10-2 dead spot. The new box and shaft and even Rock Solid Ram Steering Fix bushing did nothing to help that, though the bushing did get rid of the clunking. I am also guilty of sanding the bushing a little too much to prevent binding in cold weather and so I still have a little movement in the shaft. Anyway I got tired of the dead spot and read up on the "over center adjustment". I ti…

I have some weird issues on my truck that come and go, First off it is a 2000 CTD, 2 wd, Automatic, 218K on the clock. I was going down the highway one evening as it was getting dusk, turned on the headlights...and the engine shut down wth? Coasted to side and tried restart no go. Turned off headlight switch and restarted fine, then found out I had no A/C or heater blower fan. Little ways down the road the fan came back on?. Weird thing is when its cool out its fine, real hot out 90's and no go. I am going to check all the battery connections and grounds this weekend, Will check codes, there was a code no comm between ECM and Injector pump I think it was? …

What type of metals should I use or not use in the fuel system? Or does it even matter? Are there some metals that don't play well with fuel? Thinking about ball vales and fittings. Thanks

First posting as new member. Anybody have a link or ideas about a "back up" fuel system ready to go if current system falls apart? Had Air Dog system (100) installed last Feb after Fass system ( that was installed in 2004) started giving problems. Of course this couldn't happen at home. Between Dealer having a 3 week wait to get in (because snowbirds like me) dealer actually told me they won't fix it because it is not "stock" and had to have work done at actually 3 places (butcher shops) that really abused my back pocket. Wondering if I could install something that I could just turn a ball valve or maybe a switch to use one pump system and use "back up" …

Hi all, My NV4500's pto covers are leaking fluid so I'm planning to pull them and reseal them. I'm looking for suggestions on what type of rtv to use and how best to clean out the case of the trans while I have them off? Also, any opinions on wether or not a filter is worth the money? They kits are $100 from quad, seems like a good idea but I'm not sure if it's a gimmick or not? Also I've heard there should be a magnet somewhere in the case and that I need to clean it off? Where is that? Should I add anymore magnets? What type? Sorry for all the questions, just want to be prepared. Thanks!

So I have been quite aggressive with playing with this smarty. I have tried about 35 different combinations, and several workable tunes, and I also have debunked the long standing myth that the adjustment options were related to SW. They are not. Each setting is indeed a subset, that effects the whole fuel map. With being said, I am now at a crossroads. How do I know I have hit the sweet spot. For example I have several settings where I notice the same acceleration rate is accompanied by lower boost 10'lbs or if I change tm I can see +/-15lbs on same road section. The smoke control is also there. However on other settings I fee…
