Came back from sledding today, parked truck outside for a bit while i tinkered on sleds in the garage. About an hour went by needed to run too town statred the ole girl up backed trailer up and unhooked. Truck sat idleing for 10 min while i did a couple of things hopped back in and had a check engine light, so i stopped by oreilys and had them plug in and at first we had p1693, didnt know what that was so i wrote it down and then cleared. Then i got p1693 and p0382. Cleared code and left and came home and started reading up. Started truck 3 times since then, no cel and grid heaters seem to cycle normally. Should i chalk it up to a fluke isolated incident or should i dig de…

Finally got around to changing the fuel filter this morning and now truck won't start. Followed this procedure. http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/filter/00fuel_filter.htm, but I didn't fill the filter housing with fuel when I put the new filter in, instead I've bumped the starter several times to let the lift pump push air out of the system. I did have the filter out for an extended amount of time while I cleaned the filter cap. Don't know if that allowed an abnormal amount of air in the system. I tried bleeding air from the schrader valve on the VP44 and got a little air at first but now it's a steady stream of fuel, but still no start. Guess the n…

So I came across a web link with some great information. I’ll leave a link below. This website tells you all about maintenance intervals and fluid amounts etc. I plan to change my diff gear fluid soon and I plan to use Scaeffers 75w140 gear oil. Iv heard talk about adding a friction modifier? I’m curious if anyone knows about this stuff and how much is needed per axle? http://www.cumminshub.com/5.9-24v-cummins-maintenance-schedule.html

  5. 100HP DAP Injectors with aftermarket Bodies for 98-02 match flowed VOC? I Have a set of these and My Stockers have 147 on them, thinking of swapping these in, when I do the Valve lap tune up. I also have a HP VP44 , and was wondering if I should give it a try against my stock VP44, (was wondering if that would bode well with the 100HP injectors.) I thought maybe this would keep me from needing a tuner. My Turbo is the HX35 Let me know what you guys think

Well I thought I'd share my findings on trans temps delivering hay lately. Been hauling the same size load on same road, made four trips over the last month or so for this example. Most of my other deliveries are closer to home and trans never gets warmed all the way up. Trailer is weighing in roughly at 15,000 and making a 70 mile each way trip at 55-60 mph. Takes a little over half way through the trip to reach its towing temp of about 190°. Running empty I usually see 150-160°. Temp probe is in drivers side pto cover, I installed it when I changed trans fluid to amsoil in the spring. I did however take the expressway home today because I was running short on time and …

  7. Well folks, for the 3rd time in 4 years my VP-44 is throwing codes. Both the PO216 and P1698 now... Was hard to start for a bit but now thats cleared up but its now smoking badly when I put my foot into it and thought I saw some white smoke while driving it home yesterday. This is after I spent over $1000 to help prevent this from ever happening again. An Air Dog 165 fuel pump with dual filters along with the Vulcan big line kit from the tank to the VP pump, as well as an Edge W/Attitude to monitor the fuel pressure and an alarm should the fuel pressure ever get below 15 psi. The fuel pressure has never gone below 12 psi (it usually sets at 18-19 psi) and the filters…

My truck has just about 200k on it, I have owned it since 111k. I plan to tow a skid steer on a 14ft dump trailer estimated at 11k lb. combined. I live in Hawaii, we have some steep hills here and there. Recently I towed the trailer with a load of wood chips, and the truck revs way up before much forward movement trying to go uphill. I had considered trying to do some upgrades to it myself to see if I can rectify some of the issues on the cheap..some thoughts were: new solenoid kit; servo/accumulator piston; shift kit (i know, not recommended); trying to adjust pressure up on VB; even trying to change the TC. After thinking and reading on these for months I am leaning to…

Hi Everyone, I drove my truck today for the first time in a few weeks and it seems like my engine idle noise is louder then it should be (see attached video). I know the Nv4500 makes more noise then the auto does in all driving conditions however it seems louder then I recall. The manual swap has roughly 800 miles on it and the video is after driving for 35mins. Does it sound like maybe I need to adjust the valves? Whats your thoughts or post similar videos. 01 Ram Walk-Around @ Idle - 10.16.16.mp4

I'm looking for the best option for upgraded valve springs. I've got the air for 500-550hp and I will have the fuel whenever my buddy buys my smaller 7x.009 injectors so I can upgrade. I found Hamilton 103# and CPP 103# valve springs. The obvious choice will be the CPP for $100 cheaper. I came across this company that sells through eBay and was wondering if anyone has any experience with them. The name is StreetSportIndustries they have 103# valve springs listed for almost the same price as the crowler 110# springs. The link is http://www.ebay.com/itm/98-5-07-For-Cummins-5-9-6BT-24V-103-Upgraded-High-RPM-Valve-Spring-set-of-24-/311756186784?_trksid=p2141725.m3641.l6368 to…

Driving the other day and the transmission would not shift out of 2ed, came to a stop then accelerated and no 1-2 shift. I stopped again and on acceleration 1-2 shift, very delayed 2-3 shift up and normal 3-4 shift. After next stop no 1-2 up shift and it stayed that way. Checked for codes and there were none. Checked shift cable and it had free movement, transmission fluid full but a little dirty (about 25-30k miles on it, pulling 5th wheel most of the time). I pulled the transmission relay and drove around the block in limp home mode and it drove fine. Three codes were set from pulling the relay out but that was to be expected but still no codes for g…

  12. Hey guys,Well yesterday my NV4500 decided to lose 3rd/4th gear. Now I'm trying to decide on what to do.... I've seen that ATS and Haisley Machine both sell a NV4500 and I know I can buy the parts to fix mine. But my problem is I'm trying to decide what the best bang for the buck would be.... Would I be better off with a NV5600 or stick with the NV4500? The FSO-6404a swap is pretty cool but I'm not sure about trying to source all the parts right now. Any opinions on the ATS or Haisley trans or any other places and parts outlets?:shrug:I know I make well over what the NV4500 is rated for and I'd like not to have breakage down the road even though I don't generally drive tha…

Time to change all of the fluids. Oil, rear end, trans, coolant. Everything else seems to be working fine. I might change out my apps because i am shifting a little late. I am hoping the late shift is from a small loss of power from a faulty apps. If not it is probably a weak pump.

The following is not meant to create an argument just to simply explain my personal results and what I honk is right when doing a valve lash job on my truck. So everyone here has told me and untold amounts of other members here to do valves on a cold engine. Wrong. Valve lash must be done on a warm engine to get good results. The reason behind this is simple. When the tappets get hot they expand and when they get cold they contract. So if you adjust your valves while cold when you operate your truck the valves are going to expand and not allow proper intake and exhaust valve operation. I personally tried to complete an adjustment 2 times on a cold engine and both ti…

I have been looking for the Crankcase Vent on my 98.5 24 Valve Cummins. I can not find it so I looked in the Haynes Dodge Repair Manuel. On page 2B-8 photo 9.3a it shows a 1994 thru 1998. On page 2B-9 photo 9.3d it shows a photo of the 2000 model. No where does it show or refer to a 1998.5 or 1999 Crankcase Vent. The oil filler cap on the valve cover does not appear to be vented, there must be a Crankcase Vent some where on this Cummins. Any one know?

Anyone know the bolt size for the vacuum pump body to case mount? Finally figured out what this major oil leak was. Thought it was the tappet cover all along but just noticed one of the mounting bolts for the vacuum pump to case mount was MIA ?‍♂️ not sure how after 290K miles a bolt randomly falls out
