2nd Generation Dodge 24 Valve Powertrain

This is a discussion forum of the 1998.5 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins 24 Valve Turbo Diesel power train and drive line system. This includes all sub-system including wiring, fuel, oil, exhaust, air, transmission, computers and sensors.

    So it never caught my eye before but Its bent. Either someone before me backed into something or jacked it up by the sway bar. Its got to be replaced so go back with stock or is there something better?

    So I think my front steering got bent in the accident. As you can see in one of the pictures the tie rod coming from the drivers side is hitting the front differential when the wheels are turned. I tried to get a picture of the shape but I'm not sure what the factory bends look like. Either way the insurance is going to replace it because the alignment is messed up and it's hitting the cover. I posted a link to the updated steering below, which will work on 01 & 02 models.     I bought my truck with this "built" tranny... built for supposedly 8-850 hp. The snap at each gear is somewhat annoying.. alleviated somewhat.. if I guestimate when it's going to shift and back off the throttle for a softer shift. What can I do about this? Find another tranny and have it built to better suit my needs? Adjust this one somehow? Let me know... please.

  5. Anyone have any input on the exhaust manifold I should get? I'm undecided between the BD and ATS. While the BD has two ports driled and tapped and the ATS has one. The ATS also comes with a high temp black coating and won't look like crap after a few seasons. As far as quality between the two I have no idea. Currently the best price I have found shipped to my door is $425.00 total.

    well we have a list of the best oil filters from AH64ID...so i am interested in who has the best fuel filters for the vp/24 valve trrucks...if possible the % and the micron would be sweet!!:thumbup2:

  7. I was told the VP trucks are brutal on FP gauges. My Stewart Warner needs some slappen' around to get it to behave right. Only 5 years old and an electronic sensor type, I'm disappointed.The pulsating is what is supposed to be hard on them but, how is that so bad on an electronic one ? I even had the Vulcan small orific to prevent that. Next weekend Source automotive is putting on a mechanical one. Is that what's best? What brand do you guys have that's lasted? Like to know a little bit on how they are made and what type is best for our VP trucks.T.i.a.

    I just put a hamilton cam in my 01. I can not say enough about it. It made my paint look fresher and the seats smell better. Girls smiled at me more. Oh yea, the truck runs soooo much smother now as well. The turbo is super loud through the exhaust. I don't think you would recognize the sound of the truck as a 24v now. It get almost instant spool, lower egts, better mileage, it revs to 3500 almost instantly. This will pay for itself in a month the way we drive the truck. I am definitely getting one one in my 05. That will be the first non trans mod I get in that truck.

    Ok... I've followed most of the steps (yes only most) but I get to Number 8 on this diagnostic tool and I get 44.2k ohms.... a bit more than the 5 or less suggested value. Where is the best place to purchase a replacement or have mine rebuilt??   11. So driving home tonight I spend a fair amount of time on a 50mph road. Truck seems to run at about (never realized how goofy our tach markings are) 1800-1900rpm in 5th gear at 50, or drops to around 14-1500 in 6th. Keep in mind I am empty (I know the towing answer) it’s pretty much flat the whole way (definitely use 5th to climb) just curious about the rest of the time. Opinions?

    Dammit!I just went to NAPA to get new U joints and Center bearing. U joints are nice quality federal mogul made in usa & zerks included but the center bearing was crap! NAPA brand but made in china. wtf?? :mad:Ok I know more and more stuff is made in china, maybe ok for some applications but I'm not installing cheap china parts in my driveline.Any reccomendations for aftermarket quality parts purchases besides the dealer?Thanks

  14. Hello, I would like to know the best place to order online a transmission rebuilt kit with upgraded parts at a great price!!!! I'm from Quebec,Canada. Like solenoid upgrade.. and some hard part I need to change for my rebuild. Like overunning clutch, OD snap ring..... I've checked transpartswarehouse . cascade transmission . americain powertrainwarehouse . revmax .. I already have servo upgraded so don't want to pay for complete rebuild kit with this upgrade I have already..   15. I've had my truck for 6 years now and towed tons with it very reliably. I'm not chasing big hp, just reliable, usable, and SAFE hp. I've got some ideas but would like to hear from folks who know more than me.Thanks for any and all advice.

  16. Lets hear your ideas? Injectors (RV275), Edge Ez, Powerpuck, Smarty, Quad, Etc...Just looking for a little extra for towing. I will be adding a 4in exhaust before end of year.

    So this morning was a bit chilly for us around these parts (weather read 27* fells like 19*) so I go out to get the truck started and let the 3cyl do its job for a bit. I turn the high idle switch to off since I hadn't left it plugged in, WTS goes out and I give it a crank. She starts a bit rough, but only stumbles for a second maybe and fires up. Thinking nothing more, I turn the switch to 3cyl and head back inside. I come back out and notice a CEL on. Truck still is driving fine, although it seems like the truck might have a little less power, but not sure if it was just a combo of the CEL light being on and it being a little icy or what but just a feeling. Anyways…

    Im running a 63 68 12 /s475 setup and i currently have 7x09 injectors... I'm looking to see what you guys recommend for my setup as my 7 by 9s are too small now. The truck is a manual trans and primarily used to tow the camp trailer in the summertime at about 5000 through 9000 foot elevation.
