2nd Generation Dodge Non-Powertrain

Discussion of the 1994 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel non-power train. This includes interior, air conditioning, heating, lighting, body, suspension, brakes, stereos, etc.

  1. My center light has sprung a leak, and when it rains hard (i.e., every afternoon during the Florida summer monsoon season) I get some drips coming out of my overhead console. Clearly, this cannot stand, so I need some new ones. Anybody switched to LEDs or the 4th-gen style, or anything different?

So glad i found this wealth of information, I am already finding it useful. My experience with Mopar is via a 96 Cherokee with a HO and ax15, its reliability is what led me to buy my... 2002 Ram 2500 5.9 HO 6 speed. I originally noticed a slight hiccup in 5th-6th gear, but nothing substantial as i don't run it hard. On Christmas eve while driving home i noticed the hiccup tried to gain speed and the issues started. Drive home was very rough and the pedal was in and out. Codes given were P0122 & P0236. I changed the Fuel and water filters. I also changed the APPS sensor. The codes still exist. I f…

  5. On the way to work this evening, I made a right turn onto a main street and after I completed the turn the steering wheel locked in a right turn. Luckily I got the truck stopped before I hit the new car that was parked on the curb! Once I got stopped I noticed that one of my keys on my keyring had swung into position to become jammed in the back of the steering wheel. There are two holes back there for the mounting hardware for the airbag; which just happened to catch the key! I think I am going to remove all other keys from my truck keys until I can figure out a fix for this. I seem to remember 1993 Dodge Dakotas had a recall for this and issued a fix which consisted of …

Does anyone know if the RV house battery isolator is integral to the truck tow electrical system on the 2001 3500 and if so where would it be located?

When I bought my truck previous owner installed new calipers to hopefully fix a problem with the front passenger side wearing down quicker.I have since replaced all the hard brake lines and installed new pads. It seems there is still a problem with the right side. Symptoms are twice the amount of brake dust on that side.. the warmer the brakes get it starts to squeal. . There is is an ever so slight pull to that side at times.. and the brakes seem to become more grabby the warmer they get. Im also starting to feel a slight pulsation like the rotor is slightly warped. The only thing I can think of would be to change the soft lines.. right? Anything else I should look at/fo…

I renewed both sway bar links complete about 18 months ago, now both sets of bushes are split again and it's MOT time. I had a set of Landrover 90/110 rear lower shock absorber polybushes and they are just right for the sway bar link bushes, the ones I have are a flat bush but you can get bushes with a cone shape on one side which would sit in the sway bar better. Could probably do with a thin tube spacer in the sway bay just to centralize it but I didn't have a piece of tube the right size Probably not much use to you guys in the USA but here in the UK and Europe landrover stuff is everywhere, cheapest on Ebay is £3.85 for the set

  9. Ok, here is my issue, I recently wrecked my 2002 Ram 2500 H.O. 6 speed and totaled it out. It only has 97,000 miles so I purchased a 1999 3500 with Cummins and an auto tranny to put my motor and transmission in. I have completed the engine and transmission swap and all is well....almost. The cruise will no longer work, the light won’t even come on in the dash. It worked on both trucks before the swap. Here’s another known problem, the 1999 truck had the vacuum actuator under the driver’s side battery for the cc and the 2002 cruise control is all electronic controlled. I used the pcm and ecm from the 2002 so I didn’t hook the vacuum actuator up as the 2002 di…

About a month ago I experienced a hitch receiver failure on my 2002 2500 4WD Long Bed truck equipped with a Cummins engine and a manual 6 spd transmission. Although I have inspected the hitch many times over the years, I overlooked a critical area during those inspections. The hitch-to-frame fasteners (four on each side) were always tight. However, a couple of inches away from the fasteners (at the first 90 bend in the hitch receiver flange) is where the separation occurred. It started on the left rear side of the hitch receiver (a long time ago) and continued forward until the hitch receiver dropped away from the truck frame as I was pulling off to the side the road…

Hi, I'm in the process of changing my light bulbs to LED's. Following Mike's lead, I installed the EP27L Relay from NAPA to eliminate the notorious Hyper Flash on Turn Signals. The Hyper Flash is gone, but I noted the Relay clicks 2 or 3 times AFTER the signal is cancelled. Happens regardless if its Left or Right. Is this what others are experiencing? Not a show stopper, just curious. Thanks. Leaky

Just bought a 1999 dodge ram 2500 5.9 diesel and doesn't have cab lights. I want to put cab lights on and was wondering what brands are the best to look at? I just don't want them to leak after putting them in.I have Airdog 100 fuel pump system running at 17psi, quadzilla xzt+, 4" turbo back exhaust with muffler, 50HP injectors, road ripper 2000 transmission

Hey all, I'm looking to copy Mikes idea of sticking some lights on the rear axle to increase visibility when backing up. Wiring in those lights seems fairly straight forward. I was also looking to add the bypass switch so I can flip them on while in park. Couple questions... Anyone know what wire in the trailer harness is for reverse? What wire do I splice into on the neutral safety switch on the trans?

Recently acquired a 2000 3500 dually to replace my 88 w350 with a bad frame. When I went to look at it was told it had air bags in rear. When looked under rear was very confused by the setup under there. Took me a few minutes to figure it out. Never saw a setup like it before. After buying it and getting it home did some digging and found out it is a Kelderman 2 stage rear suspension setup. Anyone know what pressure to set the bags at? They were deflated when I got it. Put about 35psi in them and they are holding fine Truck definitely rides nicer than my 88 w350!

Hey I think it is about time to ditch the casette player and upgrade to a newer radio that may has a ipod jack and satallite radio but was wondering how difficult this swap would be. See my truck has the infinity speakers that have the big connector on them so do I need new speakers also? Thanks

Im getting a metal to metal hit when I hit a good dip in the road. They are doing constant roadwork here and where they scrape the road out a few inches my truck hits metal to metal where the road gets higher again. I have crawled under the truck and the only place I see shiny metal is on the frame crossmember under the oil panand I can feel nicks cut into the tie rod that connects to the pitman arm. I wonder if a 1" dropped pitman arm would fix this and why its just now happening?

Ok I have been having some odd issues the last few weeks. About a year ago I got a hard CEL code P0123 and P0122. I checked for AC Noise at the Alternator and got around .03 VAC so no problems there. I swapped out the APPS for a TIMBO no problems truck runs fine. Now a year later I get a random P0122, P01693 and another code I don’t remember it was int he 300s, the last few weeks....it comes and goes usually at startup during idle. This morning I go to take the Wife last minute shopping and all of the sudden after startup I get an Air Bag Light and Brake light stuck on. Also no power to the Heater Blower Motor. Drive the truck about 10 miles or so everything else w…

  20. I have been looking for adjustable ball joints for my 2WD 2500. As the suspension sags the alignment is thrown off causing excessive wear on the ball joints and the tie rods. All I have found are MOOG and we all know the issues with these. Does anyone know of a good adjustable ball joint for the 2WD trucks?? Seems like they are all made for the 4WD. I appreciate your help!!
