  1. Funny Idaho has very little sales of Biodiesel. Oregon is B% minimum.
  2. Vulcan Performance is another good provider of injectors. I got Vulcan +50 HP injectors now.
  3. I can tell you Duramax uses a cooler for fuel supply too and I can tell you the location under the truck is poor. The cooler ends up packed with mud and debris so the cooler is worthless. Also make sure to have a thermostat too because the fuel temp gets too cool it will cause the truck to start up backwards. I've seen several reports of home made coolers on VP44's doing this and having 5 or 6 reverse gear and only 1 forward gear. Fuel temperature also affects timing so excessively cold will over advance the timing so warmer fuel tend to retard. Again this why I don't suggest the coolers and not worried about it. If it does run backwards the engine will be ruined in a short time being there is no oil pressure.
  4. Unknown... You might have to poke around a bit I know its there some where.
  5. Most all potato production is down in the south east corner of the state. The famous potato comment is a bit over blown being that there is more wheat grow that potatoes. There is also rape seed (canola oil), barely, hay (alfalfa hay), etc. As for potatoes I've live here on the west side for 25 years and never seen a potato farm yet.
  6. Now that's potato country but not out here on the west side.
  7. That not going to guarantee it to be leak free. As a matter of fact I did exactly that and bought 6 new connector tubes with o-rings. Now number 6 has been slow weeping for a few months. One day I'll deal with it.
  8. They do but mostly in the south part of the state. Most of the west side (where I'm at) is all wheat fields. (Grangeville Idaho)
  9. Cooler will do absolutely nothing As you see there is a air space between the circuit board and the cover and the cover is plastic then the out cover is aluminium. So external coolers don't work at all being you attempt to cool the plastic body and not the circuit that is heated to the temp of the fuel. There is also the possibility the sensor in the pump is bad or off. Like I said there is only be one report of a over heat. I would check with a IR gun. There is more heat in the aluminium body that that plastic cover will do anything about... I still say the PSG is damaged from electrical noise that heat. Which is very possibly how the fuel temp sensor is off because of electrical damage.
  10. As long as the overflow valve is open and fuel pressure is above 14 PSI then your returning to the tank. Then if you keep better than 1/2 tank of fuel then the fuel temperature is typically lower. But temperature related failures tend to alway be pointed at the fuel supply issue which isn't always true. Like most people are shocked to find out a typical summer high temperature is Riggins, ID is 110-115*F like this summer it hit 117*F for one day. So We have the super hot summers here. My injection pump has 201k miles and 9 years old and not had a single problem with extreme heat. I've measure the fuel temp in the tank as high as 140-150*F easy. As for electronic they will withstand huge amounts of heat non-operating. Liked I've left my laptop in the truck on a summer day turned off and it will survive cab temperature no problem. Remove it from the truck and turn it on and allow the fan to cool it down before work with it no problem. Same kind of circuit boards ans solder. Heck the CPU temp of a normal PC can reach well in the 160-180*F under full load. Got to remember the heat soak of the engine can be as high as 190-200*F so I'm sure that used a solder well above the worse heat soak temps. This why I go back to power supply more so. Because if it was temperature related issue we would hear a ton of people losing VP44 in the southern states like Texas and such. Still even in desert states no one is reporting a P0168 codes. From the Cummins Books...
  11. Here is the turn signal diagram. turn signal wiring.pdf Here is the head lights... headlights.pdf
  12. That's normal. There is only one report of anyone setting a... http://articles.mopar1973man.com/2nd-generation-24v-dodge-cummins/59-obdii-error-codes-cummins/155-p0168-decreased-engine-performance-due-to-high-injection-pump-fuel-temperature So I tend to toss the overheating thought out the window. But now AC noise will create heat with the chips and electronics of the PSG causing the same kind of failure. As you pulse a sine wave positive to negative on a 14 volt DC it will create heat on transistors and MOSFETs and create the failure. P0251, P0252 and P0253 is all electronics failures of the MOSFET that controls the fuel pin solenoid. P1688 is a failure of the PSG and not handshaking with the ECM when the key is turned on. All these are power related issues.
  13. Now what I did find the flasher module does have a separate ground and fuse. The flasher ground is the G201 right center dash support. The fuse 10 in the cab fuse panel.
  14. Dave is just plain nuts about Idaho Potatoes. So why not ask your boss to send you out to Idaho to build out here...
  15. Low volt code more than likely the APPS rheostat is wearing out. But typically I just reset the code and see if it returns if so the APPS should be diagnosed a bit deep and most likely changed out.
  16. Every one of those codes is a electronics failure code of the VP44 PSG unit which is most likely caused by bad alternator diode. I highly suggest to have the alternator test for AC noise levels (normal is 0.01-0.02 or 10-20 mV AC). Because if you change the VP44 without checking it could and will destroy the new pump in a quick hurry.
  17. I know the headlight circuit has no tie to the turn signals. Headlight ground is in the driver side kick panel and the turn signal ground is on the driver side fender near the headlight.
  18. I'm demob'ed for the time being and back home safe and sound. Might go again but unknown. Just for fun here is my full picture pile... http://mopar1973man.com/Tepee%20Fire.zip
  19. The specks are bits of ash on the camera lens when the flash fired it showed up. This was still early in the day and you'd swear it was night fall. The winds picked up and was pushing smoke down on us so hard there was no light. There was a wind gust that pinned me to the back of my truck. Dalton Ray Silva got sand blasted being down on the river bank he was manning the trash pump filling the water tender. We were staged at Carlson's Sheep Ranch. I have to say yesterday was a good day. Carlson Ranch thank Salmon River Rural for being there and protecting their home. We've been staged along there property area for some time and doing what we could to protect barns and outbuildings. Servicing other truck by keeping them filled with water. The end of the day USFS wanted to do a back burn behind the Carlson Ranch to clean it up. Both Engine 3 and Engine 4 were staged at homes near the fire line and Water Tender 3 was brought in to support the engines with water during the back burn. Our SRRFD was thanked highly for quick thinking, planning, and executing the plan fast and being setup well before the fire became a issue. I would like to return the Thanks back to USFS Engine 622 for working with us.
  20. I'll post a loonger story later. But I got to admit being in the middle of a wind storm with fire coming is rather spooky. I'll post more pictures later. I'm tired. We ended our day with a serious down pour and thunder storm. I'm pretty sure we'll get demob'ed after tomorrow. I was thanked by the Carlson Family for being there and protecting their homes. Then our crew was thanked from Eng 622 for supporting them with 2 engines and water tender during a back burn and quick thinking and good planing. Oh... It's still raining off and on yet... Here is one of my crewmen (Dalton) supporting my water tender during a fire storm... That orange color is the thick choking smoke.
  21. Hope not it would create serious issues with mudslides. Bad enough with rock slides and log fall out right now...
  22. Another long day of heavy smoke and fire. We all got a bit worried for a Fire Chief today he now stuck up on the fire with 7 other engine crews till morning. There is a segment of road with rock slides and then the French creek is closed from fire. So there is homes in there he's protecting. I know he's OK and got food and place to stay. So we bailed out late last night, none of wanted to leave till we were sure he's got a plan. For AH64ID... Then my 2 Cummins...
  23. Here is from my adventure yesterday is is blew up and ran into Partridge Creek and continued East and jump the Big Salmon River at about the Manning Bridge. Don't bother with Inciweb its WAY WAY behind and not reporting true size or correct map yet. We were stage at Partridge Creek and The Big Salmon just for location. Still driving my Cummins Water Tender (1983 KW with Cummins Big Cam 400)
  24. Just you wait.... When you come up here and drive from Boise, ID to Lewiston, ID and see what is actually here you be kind of shocked.
