  1. Just got back to the states again and the truck has been setting for the last 4 months. When I start it in the morning you never know what its gonna do, it will either rev up and down or just go straight to almost 1000 rpm. It went to 1000 this morning and I got about 2 minutes down the road and it started idleing normal. My alternator is charging at idle and I just ordered one of Goulds rebuilt kits so I hope this fixes both problems but I dont know.
  2. Easiest way is to count the holes and that isnt always gonna tell you anything. Stock injectors will have 7 holes but most good aftermarket injectors are 7 holes too. 8 holes will most likely be cheap edge jammers or BD. 6 holes are usually custom and cost more than the others. If they are 7 holes then just sent them off to a place that builds injectors that can test them for you.
  3. I feel that mechanical gauges are more accurate and trouble free and really just like the look of them better. I bought the quad commander years ago for my 03 when I first got into diesels and it was cheaper as a combo with a quadzilla xzilleraider than standalone gauges and a smarty. Had I known what I know now I would have a different settup.
  4. S06, thats about what they go for. Smarty also has a POD (power on demand) that you can change power setting while driving. They also just came out with the SSR but im not to familiar with it. S06 is the oldest smarty still in production for the 3rd gens. http://www.madselectronics.com/products.html
  5. EFI live has just started making tunes for cummins but only 06-07.5 5.9's at the moment. They are pretty expensive but I guess you can tune every parameter of you engine. Smarty is tried and true on 3rd gens like edge is on 2nd gens. For me there is no other tuner for a 3rd gen.
  6. I have never used vulcan but Diesel manor has always been great and they offer military discount!
  7. I have heard this but dont think its available yet. I believe efi can do this but thats a whole other can of worms.
  8. Smarty Sr. goes up to 180hp with 10 power levels and the Jr. has 3 power levels up to 100 hp. Its my wifes truck so I think the Jr. will be plenty for hera and they can usually be found on the CF for around $400.
  9. I dont have anything on my 03 anymore but when I do it will be a smarty or possibly a smarty jr.
  10. I think an xzt+ or an edge ez will be about right for you. I got my xzt through quads beta program and gave $200 for it new and sold it a few years ago for $150. Look on the cummins forum like Mike said and you can find good deals often. I couldnt tell a difference with my xzt on the mileage setting or off but on the 65 hp setting it gave a nice increase after I got a boost elbow. Before the elbow it really didnt do a whole lot, they really should come with an elbow from quad like edge does but I guess they cut a few corners.
  11. Welcome to the forum.
  12. I wouldnt buy that gauge from Geno's as it comes with an isolator you dont need. You should be able to find the same isspro gauge without the isolator for around $40. I have had my mechanical gauge on my column for several years with no problems but I dont use the tilt wheel regularly. I have less than $125 total in my fuel pressure gauge settup including, gauge, column mount, tubing, banjo bolt and needle valve. I also have a quadzilla commander for the rest of my gauges but would eventually like to get the rest in the mechanical flavor.
  13. I second a raptor or airdog if you want filters. The problem with cheap (junk) oem pumps is, you could have bought a good pump and saved alot of work if you spend more and get a good one to begin with.
  14. Welcome Jordan, we have bumped into one another on the CF more than a few time.
  15. Very clean install. I have been reading alot of injector stuff lately and majority says go with a 5 hole injector on 12v's. A 5x.014 would be in the same power class as a 7x.010 and I believe the 5 hole has the correct spray angle but this maybe on p-pumped 12v's.
  16. Your lucky to be close to country like that. Whats the temp and humidity like there now?
  17. Talk to Lee, he is also in WI, he is supposed to build top quality injectors at a fraction of the cost of most others. I recently got a set of 7x.010 from him for my 98 but 12v's are his specialty. The shop is called Contagious Diesel on facebook or here is his direct email. contagiousdiesel@hotmail.com
  18. Good luck, I have had my comp for 3 years and never any problems. It is second hand and was originally bought back in 2005.
  19. I have been following threads on this lately and would like to do this in the future, seems like a nice little upgrade that can be done with the fleece controler for around $1k.
  20. Welcome. You will have to pull injectors and have them flow tested to see if they are aftermarket. Your puke bottle will be on the front of the engine with the blowby hose going into it if its still there.
  21. I dont think its a problem, just means you hit a higher boost level than a stock truck should hit and it tripped the code. Fill out your signature so we can see whats done to your truck.
  22. Friend called me saying his early 04 truck died and hes getting p0628 code. Does this mean a bad connection or bad lift pump? Believe his is still on the block.
  23. Are yo looking for the elf7349? Best price I have seen is on ebay but its still $22-23 shipped. It should filter rotella as good as any oil.
  24. Dont add up your power by the manufacturers hp numbers. Your 235hp truck is probably only about 200 at the wheels, injectors are usually pretty close but tuners are not from my experience. If you have a 65hp box put some 100-125 hp injectors for a nice 350+/-hp.
  25. I would get the elbow, my egts dropped a good amount after the boost elbow and it has more power. You can get an adjustable elbow off of ebay for $10-15 and the edge elbow isnt adjustable, or atleast mine is not. With my 150's and comp on 5x5 I could hit 42 psi boost so an adjustable elbow would be nice.
