  1. When Banks tested the vacuum, did they do it at the brake actuator and at the pump? If at the pump, then the diagnosis is correct but if only tested at the exhaust brake, then there might be a vacuum hose or fitting that is leaking. Did they inspect those components during their diagnosis? The rubber fittings disintegrate over time
  2. Question, is your other truck white and just to the left in the photos?
  3. That engine change in California would not pass state smog inspection therefor could not be registered for road use. The engine has to match the "under the hood " label and all emission control components installed.
  4. Could be an axle seal that hasn't puked all over your tire yet. Get under there and sniff around. Good luck.
  5. If the torque convertor had moved forward and out of alignment the truck would have never moved let alone cracking the bell housing while trying to bolt it to the engine block. No reverse and weak forward maybe a bad front drum/clutch pack and the input shaft, which is attached to the drum, may have buggered up the oil pump and the TC.
  6. The purple hair "goofy one" doing KP duty in my 5er.
  7. Dam... I'm going to need another vacs jab with more side effects. I resemble resent that remark.
  8. I'm OK. I got the "purple hair" vacs before I left for camp but now, I'm going bald.
  9. Instead of drilling a new hole in the lid how about running the wire through a modified license plate light housing. Take the assembly out remove and modify the blub holder and cover to allow the wire to pass through then refit the parts. Something like below.
  10. @DownHomeDieselhow about an update of what was found and repaired. It could help someone else later on.
  11. There is a state insurance commissioner office that i could contact and fill out a complaint form but unless it's an egregious violation they most likely will not do anything about it. The "boss" would probably give the claims agent a letter of commendation for doing what they are supposed to do... give out as little money as possible per claim. I thought that contractor's liability insurance was to cover deficiencies in work performed, not for dumb driving. That's their policy but not the law. He should have sued in small claims Cort the post office and served the postmaster and let the judge see the video. An entity's policy is not a law so the police and courts will not enforce it. Some workers in law enforcement don't know the difference between policy and laws and will try to enforce policies. I'm very sorry to hear that but it explains a lot.
  12. UPDATE, it's been 7 weeks since he ran his trailer into my truck, and I put a claim in to their insurance company, Mercury. The only response from Mercury has been a form letter saying that they're looking into the claim. Seven weeks is long enough to look into it. I turned it over to my insurance company, USAA, and let them deal with it. Got my wife a used Volvo XC90 a couple of weeks ago and put a dash cam with rear camera in it. It's recording coming and going.
  13. Wish I was back on the bayou rollin' with some Cajun Queen. Wishin' I were a freight train, oh, just a-chooglin' on down to New Orleans.
  14. I digress temporarily from tire size. Choogle definition, (slang) To ball and have a good time. To ball, (slang) To engage in sexual intercourse. The use of the word ball was used in this context in the late 1960's and early 1970's, I was there and heard it and used it this way. This brings more clarity to the lyrics. "But if you're a natural man You got to ball and have a good time" "Here comes Mary lookin' for Harry She gonna choogle tonight" With an automatic transmission, 4:10 differential, and 245/75-16 tires I pull my trailer and boat at freeway speed in OD. 55-65mph is 1800-2100RPM. I down shift to 3ed and slow to 55 for long uphill grades.
  15. Ok, I have an Airtex fuel pump plumbed in my fuel system with the fuse for it pulled. It is used as a backup if the belt breaks on the mechanical pump and is also used to prime the fuel system when changing injectors, vp44, or fuel filter. Try this, get a fuel container with a couple of gallons of fuel in it and enough fuel line to go from the suction side of the fuel pump to the contain, disconnect the fuel tank hose from the suction side of the fuel pump and install the new hose from the container. Prime the system and start the engine. If the fuel pressure stays stable, then the problem is in the tank or the fuel line to the pump. If it drops then it's in the pump, fuel filter or VP44.
  16. If there was an air leak in the supply side the fuel would run back to the tank when the engine was shut off and there would be a hard starting problem due to a priming problem. You stated that the lift pump is "in-line style, original location on engine". Is it a Carter pump that looks something like this? These pumps are not reliable. I went through 3 of them in 2 years, that is why I installed a Fuel Boss mechanical lift pump.
  17. How to install a lift pump relay. https://mopar1973man.com/cummins/articles.html/24-valve-2nd-generation_50/51_engine/59_fuel/installing-protective-lift-pump-relay-r501/?tab=comments#comment-55 This is another way to control the lift pump. https://mopar1973man.com/cummins/articles.html/24-valve-2nd-generation_50/51_engine/59_fuel/asd-controlled-lift-pump-r649/ Before doing any of the above, test ECM lift pump voltage output with a voltmeter or test light, at pin #15 and #35 of the connector at the ECM with the engine running. If no voltage the that part of the ECM is bad.
  18. 150-amp fuse for 5 years with no problems. Two spare fuses in the glove box. @W-Tsays an inline fuse/breaker is not needed and recommends not installing one.
  19. Whatever attaches the transmission/transfer case to the crossmember.
  20. When the transmission is shifted to reverse the engine, transmission and front half of the drive line shift to a position that's a little different than drive or neutral. The drive shaft maybe rubbing due to a worn or misaligned transmission mount or center support bushing.
  21. Glad to hear the move went well. Easy money.
  22. I did a lot of Dana 30, 1030, and 1031 differentials in Volvos. If you are just replacing the bearings or spider gears, it's not hard but replacing the ring and pion can be a real PITA. Mike needs to hire a gaffer.
  23. Gas "Motor" oil has about the same flash point as diesel motor oil. Information from safety data sheets. Refiner Oil Type Flash point Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 435° F Chevron Delo SDE 15w-40 399° F Chevron Delo XLE 15w-40 399° F Valvoline Synthetic Diesel 5w-40 >390°F Valvoline Motor oil 10w-30 >390°F Valvoline Synthetic motor oil 10w-30 >390°F
  24. Be sure those trailer tyers aren't rotten.
  25. Different gaskets. FEL-PRO 12V timing cover gasket part #TCS46001 FEL-PRO 24V timing cover gasket part # TCS45994 Permatex Ultra Black will also work. "Permatex Ultra Black retains high flexibility and oil resistant properties through use of a patented adhesion system. Ultra Black is sensor safe, low odor, and non-corrosive with resistance to oil, shop fluids, and vibration. This sensor-safe, low odor, non-corrosive formula meets performance specifications of OE silicone gaskets and can be used on high flexibility and high oil resistant applications such as timing covers, transmission pans and oil pans." " Permatex Ultra Grey Rigid High-Torque RTV Silicone Gasket Maker is designed specially for high-torque and high vibration applications, like those common in import engines. Grey RTV has higher density when cured for higher vibration resistance and tight tolerance applications."
