2001 24v 5spd 4x My truck struggled to start slightly and clunked at 2K rpms in second pretty loudly and before I could pull off it did it again 1800 rpms in 3rd this time my headunit, trailer brake controller went off and back on and my lights started doing the rave party flash. Shut the truck off, checked my battery terminals everything looked cherry started it back up no issues. About 5 mins from home my gauge lights started flickering and my volt gauge spiked to 18. I had a battery terminal that was suspect and new batteries sitting around so I tossed them in, wire brushed the connections. 2 weeks of perfect driving and today it happened again, skip in second, ha…

EGT gauge is back up and running, however, the probe is after the turbo. In my previous trucks I have been in the exhaust manifold, and 1200* was the peak I ever wanted to see.. My question is, because I can't move the probe before towing this week/weekend. What temp would you guys say is a conservative number to stay at or below? Thank you

I bought a 2001 Laramie 4 months ago with 190,000 miles. It had an intank lift pump and had never tasted 2 stroke its entire life. Over the last 4 mos. I've been working bringing it up to proper standards, ie, complete fuel system upgrade, electrical connections /grounds cleaned. Everything done has gradually increased mileage numbers with the big line kit, added pre filter, drinks of 2 stroke oil, but the biggest surprise was running the fuel return down the fill neck. This has helped most of all because air bubbles were getting sucked up the 1/2 inch draw straw.( explains my erratic fuel pressure readings prior)

Ok so I recently rebuilt my motor and put it back in the truck this week. I got it started fine and to idle but the oil pressure, tachometer, and thermostat gauges were not working. (Oil pressure is fine though I have a mechanical gauge) Did the cluster test and everything worked fine. So I disconnected the batteries and cleaned the 2 grounds to the motor. Put dielectric geese on grounds and tightened. Reconnected the batteries and now my lift pump will not kick in. As well as the gauges still not working. I have double and triple checked that I have everything connected to the correct spots and grounds put back on the motor where they were. I need this truck running befo…

Upfront: I apologize for the length but I am exhausted. I am nearly convinced my 99 is too old for parts support, or I’m the ONLY one to experience a FAILED 98.5-2002 ECM. I have dedicated days and nights searching the Internet for a REBUILDER with phone follow-ups. The Internet is abound with enticing websites, pictures of pristine Integrated Circuit Boards, immaculate state-of-art facilities, complete with "experts" in uniform lab coats, headgear, and nitrate gloves peering into high powered microscopes - methodically examining/testing every component to exacting standards. Each facility promises the "perfect", “tested under all conditions”, "sleep well a…

So the entry road to the Laguna SECA race track has a 16% grade and my trailer weighs just south of 10k pounds. No way to get enough speed to lock up the torque converter. So I'm stuck crawling in 1st. I had to run for a few hundred yards with the transmission temp gauge north of 280 degrees. Ouch. A high idle at the top of the hill brought the temp down quickly. The fluid doesn't look or smell burnt. I think I'm going to have it flushed out anyway. What are the chances that I damaged my freshly rebuilt 48RE? Is it typical to see the trans temp get up around 220 before TC lockup? You know - on a hot day leaving stop lights and such. As soon as the TC locks up,…

So I'm going down the interstate in my 1998.5 24v and noticed 0 (zero) fuel pressure. Pulled over as soon as I could and shut down. My FASS usually makes noise. Now it is silent. It's dead. Here is what I know: - Its getting electrical current. Upon bumping the starter, the test light (at the lead that goes into the pump motor) turn on for a bit and then goes off. So the wire to the pump it hot. - It's not a fuel line clog. The truck does run after all. In fact, I didn't notice anything wrong such as lack of power or stumbling. And I'm towing a largeish RV. The gage was the only thing to indicate problems. - Tried the loosing of the three bolts at th…

Had a catastrophic failure today and had to get the truck towed home. I thought it was a simple serp belt failure. But after tensioning the new belt the alternator was cock eyed. Upon further inspection the lower alternator bolt sheared off clean at the mount. Which is also the lower cooling adapter for the lower hose and bypass. It's a $275 part. So I plan to remove it and work to get the bolt out. Are there any words of wisdom in taking this project on? I know I'm going to loose all the coolant. Weird problem. Bolt is broken off flush with the mount. looks like it takes an O ring to seal around the lower hose inlet part of the assembly. Is the…

I asked many times what I could do to increase my performance on my 2001, auto. Being in California I can not run a tunner without headaches at smog time. WELL, truck got to 200K and I decided I wanted to change injectors as I am keeping the truck the rest of my life. Eric at Vulcan performance sold me a set of new RV275s. WOW! What an improvement. More power and milage. They improved my milage by 1.5mpg, from 12.5 to 13.9 or 14. Pulling combined load of 19,500 lbs. First thought this was favorable winds but after several trips with real hard 6% grades I am convinced that they are really great.

Still chasing down the noise I'm hearing. Only have about 100 miles on this oil change. I drained a quart out and will drive it today to see if my oil level rises. Top sample is fresh rotella, bottom sample is from the oil pan. Oil still smells like fresh oil, can't smell diesel.

Hello fellow cummins nuts, this week my truck has made me feel mentally challenged, started with edge not connecting but truck started and ran, then it went to a no bus and i could still read codes which it had none, Today the truck will not crank, OBD2 will not connect, batterys good, checked the PDC box in the main fuse box and it has ground (Encountered no ground there before) i am puzzled as to where to look right now and im also having issues opening links to moparmans 2001 wiring diagrams, Ive searched this issue and clicked on them with a page not found every time. Dash lights work headlights work gauges appear to not work as it reads 0 volts, …

Just got back from towing for the first time with Mike ccv installed. I was hoping no catch can on the ccv was my oil issue on the front of the engine. Just pulled in the driveway and front pumpkin and steering is wet with oil again. Truck hasn't say long enough to see how much I lost in 250 miles but now I am ready to attack this oil leak which I am assuming its the front main. Any advice on confirming that or thoughts on anything else it could potentiality be? Brian

The other day i got back home from a 2 hour drive and as I was pulling into my place the engine just shuttered and died. Luckily I was able to start it back up and park it. I went out the next day to see if it was still acting funny and it wouldn't start. The lift pump wouldn't work all of the time and I had a carter unit on it. So i ran a relay, ordered an airdog frrp100. I have not gotten any codes off of my smarty, 15 psi to my vp44 and a fresh fuel filter. I have no air going to the v44, I installed clear hose to verify this. I have cracked 1,3,4 injectors a million times. Usually I can get it to run for 2-3 minutes one time and then it won't run after that.…

I have 1999 cumins 4x4 automatic that has recently had vp44 replacement and while driving it seems to miss it mostly does this not under a load like when going down hill it doesn't do it while accelerating. It has two new batteries. I am not getting any codes no check engine light and I have no clue what to look for on a diesel.

So I've owned the truck for about 3 weeks now. I've changed the fuel filters, oil change, all fluids bumper to bumper are at the right levels. It has a stutter that I can't quite isolate. I don't think it's a fuel issue because it fires right up, never struggles to start. Happens when it's cold more but still can happen when it's at temperature. If I could take a stab at it I would think it's the throttle position sensor because it happens when you barely touch the throttle for the first little bit then if you get on it more it smooths out so I would think rather than being a smooth climb (if you were to graph it) it would have a gap at the bottom and then be smooth the …

Hi I'm new to the site but have learned so much and hoping you guys can help me out. I've been getting a dead pedal at 53-55lbs of boost, things I've done aside from power mods are auto to nv5600 and 2001 fuel filter with twist off cap. Power mods are on my profile. I've replaced apps, map sensor, made sure the quadzilla is good, have good fuel preassure, and great power till that specific boost. Any ideas would help. Thanks.

I have been towing my 5er across Texas on the new rebuilt motor. Started with 1100 miles on her, I am about 750 miles into trip. hot as hell out here. I have been running in 4th gear, nv4500, at 2500 rpm, right around 64ish mph. Wierd thing has started to happen when I start slowing down for an off ramp for fuel, or rest. When the clutch goes in and I amdown shifting as I slow, the idle wants to drop to about 700 before it catches itself and comes back up to about 825ish. After I stop, it smooths out and idles perfect? Anyone ever heard of this? All sensors where replaced during rebuild...
