I recently performed my first rotor swap on my 98.5 2500. I pounded out the wheel studs with a single hit of a 5lb sledge. Easily came out. I swapped the wheel bearing assy over to the new rotors. Used same sledge to set the studs back in the same wheel bearing housing. A few studs did not want to set back in place flush. I whacked ‘em a few times and carried on. Thinking I’d pull ‘em right thru when I torqued the lug nuts up at wheel installation. Well I’m still cranking a few nuts tight. I’ve been test driving and get a slight vibration when braking. I have driven, braked and got hubs warm, then retorqued 3X. Seems I am almost there as the vibration is imp…

As I have a 3500 4x4 gas truck sitting not being used and a fair way from being able to be used I'm thinking about breaking it for parts (need the space) what is the difference between a 46RE and a 47RE, trans on the cummins should really be done so I was thinking would it be possible to do the 46 to like dynamics stage 3 trans and its then a 47 ? Or am I missing something. Just read that the trans are basically the same just higher torque rating on the higher 2nd number. Would do the full works think it works out to around 5k. Importing a done trans isn't really feasable due to taxes and shipping charges and core charge

I still have my TC lock up issue so this morning I thought I would check my apps voltages. 0.314 at idle climbs perfectly but max voltage is 3.46 at 100% throttle I believe this is too low?? The quad is showing 100% throttle. Any input would be greatly appreciated guys

  4. My cruise control light was always staying on, but the fly-by-wire cruise didn't work. After much problem solving, I finally took the 2001.5 Ram 2500 6 speed diesel to the dealer. Trust me, it wasn't my first choice. Anyway, they told me that the PCM didn't know that I ever had a cruise control equipped truck. The tech claimed that part of the PCM hard drive was dead. The dealership ordered a PCM, but somewhere along the line there was a mistake and they received a PCM for an automatic transmission. They didn't install it. Instead, I ordered a PCM from NAPA for about $450. The PCM came in and the dealership agreed to install it, labor free, since they'd scre…

I drove the truck for the first time in 4 weeks and started getting a no 2-3 up shift condition. It will up shift when backing off the accelerator. All the other shift points are at the proper speed/throttle position. The transmission speed sensor was replaced 8/8/18 (107,893mi) due to no 1-2 up shift but would start off in 3ed if transmission relay was pulled. Transmission was serviced with front and rear band adjustment 9/1/18 (108,024) then a 1,000mi trip in October pulling the 5er with no problems. The transmission now has 109,362mi. I'm thinking it may be the governor pressure sensor and solenoid. They were replaced about 45k mile …

  6. I am wondering if I can tweak something in my tuning to give me a little more power on hills. If I am running 55 up a decent grade it's like it's stuck between wanting to down shift and just not having the power to pick up the speed I want it too. Kinda hard to explain so I hope I make some sense. I know some bigger injectors and turbo would help more than anything.

Hey guys. So I went to get in my truck this morning for work, and noticed a small wet spot on the ground next to my passenger tire. Thought maybe the powersteering pump fluid made it's way over there since it's currently leaking, but it is coming right from the housing. How complicated is it to take it apart and replace the seal? Any special tools? Should I replace anything else while I'm at it? On another note, I've been noticing a slackness in my steering. It's not the wondering steering, it's like I turn my wheels a direction and it almost snaps back a little like there is some sort of play in the steering somewhere. It's not harsh, it just feels loose…

I have ended up with a 71/71/15 non wastegated t4 k29 borgwarner turbo. Anyone on here ever run one? I assume it's to small to run in a compound set up. But I'm wondering how it would run as a single ? Truck is purely a street truck that gets used on weekends I dont ever tow with my truck maybe once or twice a year only light loads.

Awhile back I posted wondering if a VTSS system that I didn't think I have could be causing a no start , and no 25 sec LP run that I was experiencing occasionally , I got no response . This no start was happening it seemed after the bats were disconnected for a few days while doing other things to the truck , and then it would run again. I had just replaced the ECM so I wondered if it was causing the problem , but the WTS was working ,LP 2 sec run with key to run worked and the cluster was also , when it ran it was fine , no codes , tach was not misbehaving So it happened again after the truck had been sitting for a few days - bats where still…

So I've been having difficulty finding the proper oil and I think I have the correct stuff but I want some input before I drain the old oil. So it started at NAPA I asked for the transmission oil for my NV4500 in my 1999 ram 2500. The oil I was given was part number 04874464ab. I immediately found this fishy as on the front of the bottle is says for the NV3500 and NSG-370. I got NAPA to call back the dealer that they got it from and they insisted that this is the correct oil. I did some research online and could find nothing to this being a replacement for the syntorque oil that is discontinued. After this I caĺled Castrol directly and told this what I had and what oil I …

Couple days ago i removed the "air inlet tube", the big hose from air filter box to the turbo. The hose has particles I've never seen before. Wix filter only has about 2800 miles on it. Many miles from the maintenance schedule "light duty "B" of "inspect/replace every 15,000 miles". Folding air filter in half, I can see semi loose strands bewteen the pleats waiting to be sucked in. About same size of 3 days of no shaving. Never noticed it before... Is this normal?

This week I've had a few times where I'm doing around 65mph on the highway and I hit the pedal to accelerate, and nothing happens. The engine sound might change a tiny bit but I can't accelerate at all. if I mash or get off the pedal and back on it doesn't let me go any faster. Quadzilla doesn't show anything strange, except that my throttle position changes with the pedal push. If I downshift for a sec and then go back into 6th everything is fine. Today I pulled the codes for the first time and got P0216. I'll have to check and see if it comes back. There was one odd thing 2 weeks ago when I changed the fuel filter, the next day it took about 6s to start vs the near inst…

Maybe a stupid question but I’m having trouble finding non-conflicting information. I know the PowerMax is a fuel only box. I am trying to figure out if a box for an 01-02 can work on a 98-00 truck. I know the MAP sensors are different (plug and voltage values). I have read some info saying that unlike EDGE the PowerMax box will work on all years with a MAP adapter harness. Can anyone here confirm or deny this information? I have tried to contact TST but they are closed until Monday.

Is there a way to tell which Denso diode I need... by looking at the alt is still hooked up? Like maybe that threaded bolt coming out is in different spot?

Hi All, my truck has recently presented a new issue. The oil pressure reads rather high, mostly all the time on the gauge on the dash. I'm thinking the oil pressure sensor could be failing, but I would rather make sure my oil pressure is correct. The bad news is I'm about 200 miles away from home for the next week and don't have my service manual with me (doh!). The good news is I have access to tools so I may be able to solve this while I'm here. I have a mechanical oil pressure gauge and was thinking about testing the pressure first before making assumptions, does anyone know if anyone posted an article about how to prope…

I need some help. I've got a 1999 Ram 2500 Cummins 4x4 auto transmission. I checked for ac noise and got a reading of .093 So I ordered a Nations 180 amp alternator and it came in today. My ecm was junk P0606 code auto computer specialists received it yesterday, waiting to hear from them on whether it a yes or no on being repairable. In the mean time I want to remove the tuner that is on the truck and put it back to stock. It has a early model Edge EZ manufacture date was 2008. I followed the wiring coming from the tuner, two connections that I saw were one to the maps on the drivers side towards the rear of the engine the other connection went to Idon't know what i…

  18. All my attempts to explain the 53 casting number from Brazil that affected about 100,000 blocks that are prone to crack under stress of towing seems to have failed. I have been trying to sell my 1999 Cummins but one questions that shuts down the sale is the 53 Casting Number. The original owner towed a bumper pull RV from coast to coast for the first 150K miles, NO CRACKS. I have explained that it's not just the 1999s that cracked but some 12 valves with 53 blocks and 24 valves all the way to 2001. Some blocks that cracked were 54 castings and 55 castings according to what's online. Maybe there has been more castings, who knows? Are all 53s subject to cracking? If that's …

A quad is on my list of things to buy but I’m not that far down the list yet. My truck needs new injectors sooner than later though. I would like to go with something in the 7x.009 range(100hp) Can I get away with running the bigger injectors before installing a tuner? What might it run like? I imagine they would greatly benefit from the timing adjustment that comes from a tuner but would it still be streetable for the time being?

  20. I own a 1998.5 24V 2500 long bed extra cab, with canopy. Pretty well stock powertrain. I installed a new HX35W turbo a couple of months ago. Currently running a Herko fuel lift pump that gives me18 psi at idle. Maintains 10 psi pulling a decent load up a hill. Today I installed an A-pillar gauge package. So far boost, lift pump pressure, and exhaust temp gauges are functioning. The transmission temp gauge, I'll hook up later. This January we purchased a 23 ft RV trailer. We've been getting it ready for camping season. Empty weight of the trailer is 4,950 lbs. Dual 3500 lb axles under it. I just installed new tires on the trailer and upsized them to a higher w…
