Just moved to the area ( Lawrenceville ). Normally do all my own work, but currently living in an apartment while looking for a new home. Unfortunately, apt does not allow residents to work on their vehicles here. Currently having extended crank time/loss of prime/ECM issues. Looking for a knowledgeable, honest tech in the area to work on my 2500 who knows OUR trucks and systems. Would be willing to travel for the right guy if rate is reasonable. Any help or direction is appreciated. Meanwhile, everyone have a great holiday and stay safe. 98 1/2 2500 QCSB Auto 2WD 5.9L 3.55

Hi folks I own a 1998.5 with Cummins 5.9L 24V Ram 2500. Automatic. 4x4. I got under the truck to try and ID the tranny. I learned where stamped ID numbers were located. I can read 10PK522195, I think. Hard to read. I would need to get a wire brush and some break clean to better read it. Does my truck likely have the 47RE tranny? I see a good used one for sale locally. Seems like a good price. Thinking of picking up for a spare. Mine is at 261,000 KM currently. No problems. Just planning to keep the truck long term. Could store the tranny easily. Thanks, Keith

  6. Hi, just purchased a 2002 Ram 2500 Quadcab 2WD 5.9L 24v. Starts very easy, Idles perfect. Drove fine around town in New Orleans, on the road home on interstate, the issues started. Got to 60 mph easy, but getting to 70-75 was a struggle, and slow climb. Any acceleration above that was nil and unresponsive. IF you floor it, no response but blue/white smoke out back. Consistent slight blue smoke, per wife following in my 94 ram. Once I got it home, driving around town, good peppy response 0 to 30 mph, after 30 I notice the sluggish, occasional surge, but usually lugging drive with similarity to a miss in a gas engine. Got on interstate, could'nt get above 55, missin…

So I crawled under my 99 4x4 looking at taking my exhaust off to make way for my new 4inch straight pipe and noticed at the back of the transmission where the transfer case bolts up is wet. I’m assuming the rear seal on the tranny. Should this be fixable by dropping the transfer case?

Another thermo question... Just flushed the cooling system today as truck takes a while to warm up, used Cat cooling system flushing liquid but I doubt I'd got enough to do the job properly so I'll have to get more and do it again but it has softened deposits I can see in the rad, backflushed heater core and engine/rad with water after draining the cleaner, took a look at the thermostat which was closed (cold engine) BUT tried to remove it and decided the only way it's coming out is scrap so I left it where it was for now so I can't tell what opening temp is fitted so whats the best to use ? truck is 98.5 2500 4x4 short quad. I think looking at the colour of the cool…

Iv posted this here before and never found the issue. It has gotten to the point they won’t stay on longer than 30 seconds and then flicker madly. All wiring looks good. Could it be a faulty headlight/fog light switch? Bulbs?

Grid Heater Bypass Installing this bypass will allow you to manually control if and for how long you want to run the grid heaters when the ECM is commanding the grid heaters on. This will reduce the load on the alternator/charging system and in turn reduce the harmful AC voltage. This bypass will also keep the fault codes P0380 Intake Air Heater Relay #1 Control Circuit and P0382 Intake Air Heater Relay #2 Control Circuit from being set. Parts needed: 1. 2 micro relays, terminal 87 (5) normally open (NO) with suppressor …

I'm going to replace the left and right mount with new OEM's. What is the best way? Is there a way to get a bottle jack under the motor or pan flange and do one side at a time? Or do you have to use an engine hoist and lift from the top? Any tips?

I work in the oilfield, and was helping one of the mechanics fix one of our coil tubing wet kits, namely the hydraulics cooler and fan. It got me thinking about transmission coolers, which led me to think about using one for a fuel cooler, fan and all. Would it be a waste? I also read about FedEx(I think) had problems with their fleet trucks breaking down because of their vp pumps, so they used heat sinks and apparently the problems dropped dramatically. Anyone hear about this? Just thinking too much again about how I can prolong the life of my pump, different ideas, etc.

Ok guys 2001 model here auto trans. Yesterday on the way home pulling a small trailer coming into a small town about 60 or so. Got a CEL and tach dropped and then picked back up. I pulled over and did the key flip and got P1693. I also have a superchips programmer I keep in the truck to read codes and plugged it in and I got nothing from it. Cleared codes with it and continued on went 80 miles or so and it had never came back on. Stopped to eat got back in and pretty quick after taking back off at lost speeds around side streets and parking lots it came back on. 10 miles later maybe stopped again and read codes again both ways again only had P1693. Cleared again g…

I have removed my cruise servo and before I throw $100 at a new one, I want to make sure this one is actually bad. Ohm meter reads 4.5 between ground pin and one of the others, 8.5 ohms to the other two. I can apply vacuum and apply power to check solenoid operation if needed, does anyone know if it takes a 5 volt signal, or does PCM send 12 volts? The idea of hooking volt meter leads to the truck-side plug and driving over 30 MPH to see if the PCM sends a signal just seems like a last resort. EDITS: I can confirm it takes more than 5V to operate the solenoids. Also, I believe mine is bad because when I applied vacuum and en…

Hi, I thought I would post this on this forum because there seems to be a bunch of people here that are good with Cummins electronics. I have a couple issues. I have a smarty touch with the command module (essentially an MM3) on a new Diesel Power Sourse compound turbo setup. I can’t get the smarty to read DTC codes or the trans temp. Everything else seems to work ok. I sent the unit back to smarty and they were able to test it on a 2001 (mines a 1998.5) and it worked ok so they sent it back and said to check the OBD connector and wiring (which looks good). My generic code reader also works on the OBDII but not the smarty. Anyone have any thoughts on this or know what co…

I copied this from Diesel Addict " There is a diaphragm located inside the VP44 injection pump that is very sensitive. This VP44 diaphragm works best under pressures between 10 and 15 PSI. Some pumps will be able to run higher than that but Thoroughbred Diesel does not recommend it. After changing your VP44, if you notice continued hard starting or feel as though the pump is getting bogged down, it is probably time to check the lift pump pressure. Our recommendation for optimum fuel pressure is 12 PSI of the VP 44". Reason I ask is because I replaced my manual FP gauge with an electric Auto Meter that has a warning light for to low/high fuel pressure. …
