Here is what I did for the weekend...
Like my saw... I'm the only one that operates it. So far its over 15 years od and never needed a spark plug yet, air filter is in great shape yet. (Pre-filter helps!) As for bar oil you'll be shocked I use my old engine oil for bar lube... As for fuel mix I always buy the sthl 2 cycle oil and mix per can...Less hassle on the mountain trying to figure out how much oil to fuel ratios... Other than that its a screaming beaver...

Steering wheel "shudder".
That was my first thought too is spool valve and the fluid being wore out possibly got debris caught up somewhere in the system.

Check the AC compressor relay to see if its wore out. The compressor wiring is fairly simple. +12V -> Fuse -> Relay -> AC Clutch Relay signal is from the PCM which has the hi limit switch and the low limit switch. So check the relay socket for signal from the PCM. (85 & 86) should have power and a ground present when the A/C is on.

Clutch goes soft with use - then recovers.
In my case the fluid never leaked outwards... Always full but was bleeding around the seals in the master cylinder.

This will be expensive
All I can say is more inspection required... Every time I do a oil change I rotate tires at the same time... While the tires are off I peek at the rotors and pads... Might as well since you can see them...

Flip the fan around so you can see the hub label and see what kind of fan it is. (12V or what). If its a 12V fan measure the size of the fan (in mm) and then head out to a computer shop and pick up a new fan. Maybe $8 bucks. Then just install it... As for future... When the fan starts to howl you can pull the fan hub label and under it is a rubber plug (typically) just remove the plug and add a few drops of motor oil of the bearing replce the plug and install again... You should be able to get 5-7 years out of a fan that way. (Darn computer tech side of me... 21 Year Experienced Electronics/Computer Tech)

BHAF - Life in Idaho
Because my friend has never been up there before and thought nothing about driving up the hill with the trailer but since I've been here done that I agreed to follow close enough that I could honk the horn to alert him to steep grades coming... 6% or 7% is childs play. Try 12% to 16% grades... Then I'm using a exhaust brake... Buddy doesn't have one on his 1st gen... So grab 1st gear and tap the brakes all the way down. That outerwear had holes in it so fast that it was worthless in about 6 months for washboard roads and it jiggling around just absolutely ruined it in a short order... Now after being without all these years I found as long as the filter is kept dry and doesn't get oil on it it will self shed the dust from the road vibration. So every washboard road I travel just shakes the dust right out of it again. The most I will do is turn the filter over 180* so the top is down and it will shake lose the dust. As a matter of fact I'm going to have to build a new aluminum heat shield soon the vibration and dust is going to wear holes through the metal... But I check the filter minder twice a year and place the nipple to my lips and pull a light vacuum on it if the disk pulls down to the end then its working fine. So till the disk moves I'm not going to worry about changing filters again.

D'Oh! I'm no better I've got a Sthl 046 with a 26" bar and it wipes out the arms and lower back in a short order. I've had a nice day for driving all the way to Ontario, OR... (Quiet sitting time)
