Quadzilla Adrenaline Economy and MPG
Exactly what you need to think about. So WOT at 1600rpm should have more timing than light cruising at the same rpm. If you inject too soon the explosion happens early and decreases economy. There's a flip side to that though. Less fuel lowers the compression within the cylinder and makes the fuel ignite later. So you need higher timing to make the explosion happen at the right time. That would be for really light load (Hopefully I'm saying this right as it did come from John)

Ceramic disc pads
Cheap pads here. I go through them fairly quickly being stuck in the city, but I've never felt my brakes weren't good enough even with 15K behind me.

Lower timing builds the boost faster (usually), but as you inject more fuel and have higher rpm you need higher timing to get the explosion to occur at the right time. I hope John will give us some insight. The general "theory" should be the same for all diesels, but I'm not sure how specific he can be considering no one has seen VP timing until now.

Teardown and Rebuild
Did some work on the truck tonight. Pulled the injection lines, crossover tubes, injectors, both turbos, all the piping, and the manifold. One injector had some chunky carbon buildup right on the tip, so I'm guessing that's my problem child. I'm not sure what's wrong with it, but I'm sure DAP will figure it out. I'm going to re-wrap the hot pipe between the turbos while I have everything out. It did a little melting on my new looming I'm going to clean up all of the mating surfaces while I'm home and get the secondary shined up like it's supposed to be. My 75 is starting to leak a bit of oil out the compressor side, and it has just a touch of in-out play. I guess I'll be rebuilding it while I have everything apart. @Mopar1973Man do we have an article for rebuilding turbos? I didn't see one, but I can make one when I do this turbo. Does anyone know where I can get an OEM Borg Warner rebuild kit?? Pictures because everyone likes pictures! You can see the holes if you look close! Empty engine bay Plugged up the fuel side Oil coming out of the big one

Quadzilla Adrenaline V2 Testing
Glad to hear you got it going again! Better post some pictures so we know it actually happened (Do it in a new thread) On your "FUN" tune, I would back down the "minimum pump tap fuel percentage" and start with wiretap at a higher number. These VP's like to start fueling on the can-bus fueling and just add wiretap to make more power. As for the cooling, I'd be willing to bet your thermostat is stuck a little bit open. In 20* or below mine will drop to about 180 (with the heater on) on a 1 mile downhill.

Teardown and Rebuild
Turbos are coming out to replace the manifold. While I'm at it I'll re-wrap the hot pipe with some heat wrap as well. Maybe I'll do some shining on the small one while I'm at it

@Me78569 @jlbayes any ideas on this?

Teardown and Rebuild
I'll see what some stripper does to it. If it works, I'll probably see if your dad can help out. I'm trying to make this valve cover look pretty! Sand blasting might be okay because it will be repainted. However I'd prefer to do it myself. I'll give it a shot this weekend. Thanks!

I think that might burn it into the metal's pours. The surface finish on it is not very good.

Teardown and Rebuild
Does anyone know the best way to remove powder coat from aluminum?? I'm thinking airplane stripper or something to that effect. I'll tag a couple of you who I think may have ideas. @CSM @Me78569 @Mopar1973Man @IBMobile @dripley Anyway, I've got a BD stainless manifold on the way, so I'll be pulling the turbos out to put that in. I wish I had some blankets to put on at the same time but oh well. I'll also be pulling my injectors and sending them back to DAP to be cleaned and have the pop pressures reset. I've got a little miss at idle that I'm suspecting are the injectors but we'll see. After all of that it'll be dyno time!

Quadzilla Adrenaline V2 Testing
I did some testing today with the new backdowns. I set the boost limit to 30psi. Now keep in mind on level 3 (canbus-only) I'm seeing around 50 psi. When stabbing it on level 3 boost spiked to 38 or 39 and settled down to 28-29 very quickly. I'm very happy with that. I think backdown was around 65% with that limit set. There's just nothing you can do to stop a spike when boost builds that fast. I also tested the EGT at 1200 deg. I can build a lot of heat when rpms are lower, but at 1850rpm and above with can-bus fueling only egts don't surpass 1100. So I lugged it down to 1400rpm and held it to the floor. I think egts only made it to 1250 then were quickly pulled back down to 1160-1200. I tested it with a healthy amount of wiretap (which my egts can go 1800+) and egts made it to 1350 before they were pulled back down to around 1200. Again the spiking is very hard to stop with so much fuel. Overall I've very happy with it. I'd be confident to loan my truck to someone and let them pull a load without blowing it up. Good work @Me78569 and thank you!

My addiction
Heyyyy I found one of them too. Just undecided on what color(s) I want to paint / powder coat it.

I haven't seen that low. http://www.factorymoparparts.com/oe-mopar/52122362al

I can test this one. Doesn't take much for me to get over 1600

new injector instll
Yes. Try turning the comp off and see what smoke output looks like. Then we actually have something to reference to.

new injector instll
I wouldn't think he should have to drop to level 1 though. That's like a 20hp tune. Although we have no idea how hard it actually comes in. @dripley how is it in stock form?
-
new injector instll
Yeah I'd give them a call. @Me78569 says his 100hp from DFI were clean as a whistle around sea level. I would expect you to witness the same thing considering your injectors are 50hp smaller.

@dripley what's your altitude?

Quadzilla Adrenaline V2 Testing
Awesome. I'll give it a shot this week. I wonder if I can hold boost down to 20. Max speed of 50 here I come!

stumble on acceleration
I'll have to listen to the video later, but the symptoms sound like a bad VP out of the box.

Quadzilla Adrenaline V2 Testing
Someday I'm going to convince you to do some work on the backdowns. The main one I'd like to see is EGT defueling smoother than just jumping levels.
-
Flash or re-flash
AD wants the flash simply for the run time of the lift pump before starting. I would assume they want just the short "blip" of the lift pump rather than the 5 second run. Starting at 15-20psi can cause hard starts.

Help with short Questions...
VERY good price. The "price" on mine was 5K. Not what I paid, but that's what someone else would have. Have you seen their work? Does it stand the test of time? Something just seems off being that low.

Help with short Questions...
Careful using the big truck pumps. Most of them have no more than a screen for filtering where the "pickup" pumps are filtered to around 30 microns. I used to work for a chain of fuel / gas stations.

Quadzilla Adrenaline V2 Testing
Okay that's kinda weird. Everyone is idlng different. Both requirements have to be met in order for wiretap to take effect. So say your settings are boost 15 and tps 40. If your boost is 35 and TPS is 25 you will not get wiretap If boost is 10 and tps is 100 you will not get wiretap. Once both conditions are met you get wiretap.
