  1. Most common use of the PTO is for a hydraulic pump for a lift bed. IIRC PTO's cant be used while in gear, so it limits some of the use.
  2. There has been lots of discussion on the overfilling, its rare to find any companies that don't endorse at least a qt over. That's why I stuck with about a qt on mine (and with the fast coolers, its much less elevation than on a non fast cooler trans).. But in the end its every persons decision on what to do, I don't think the NV5600 has seen a lot of failures either way. The increase in temp also has two trains of thought, the most popular (thou not always accurate) is that the extra oil is now bathing the bearings more, and pulling more heat from them.
  3. Have you seen the new thread? I missed it until this morning. http://forum.mopar1973man.com/showthread.php/2029-Clutch-and-tranny
  4. Looks like its going well for you, considering. Have you looked at any extra cooling? There are two options, Fast Coolers and Trans-Cool. The Trans-Cool are 2x the money, but look like they may work a little better; but I have never heard of anyone not getting a decent amount of cooling from the Fast Coolers. I run the Fast Coolers on mine, they hold 2 extra qts (Trans-Cool only adds one), so there is more fluid for cooling. Most recommend adding 1-2 qts over the stock fill. I think I am 3qts over with the fast coolers, and that has to help lubing and cooling. Did the place you bought the trans from suggest a fluid to you? I have been using Amsoil MTF with good results for the last 45K miles, going to change it at 50K mile intervals. That's an interesting thought. I wonder if the slave cylinder mfgr should be contacted about a defect? Or if the slave cylinder wasn't bleed properly? I think its probably worth a few phone calls to get an idea on what issues that could cause.
  5. Dmax's have always had the Allison, they were paired from the start. Stock the Allison is decent, but still takes $$ to hold power and doesn't mod as well as the 48RE for power. The Allison is a lot of name, and people always trash talk everything else since its not an Allison, regardless of performance (Just like some Cummins guys I know ) Hawkeye: Did you ever have the fluid changed? Just was thinking about how you thought 90wt was in there, you didn't put that in did you?
  6. My first though is that when its hot and there is no load the fuel required to idle is so low that maybe one of the injectors doesn't pop as low as the others and the VP isn't sending enough fuel to get it to open? But t
  7. Thats just stupid! I would be having a serious case of the arse with whoever designed that!Rims are cheap, a "safety" feature like that could cost lives.
  8. From everything I have read the auto's take a ton more money to tow heavy with than a standard, plus why have 4 gears instead of 6 :-)Now on the new trucks its 6 or 6, but I will still take a standard anyday. The places I hunt/tow are murder on auto's. Auto's are for racing and wives, standards are for trucks that tow; I think most folks would agree. For guys that haul and tow I have rarely heard a guy with a standard wish they had an auto, but you hear guys with auto's wish they bought sticks all the time.
  9. It defiantly sounds like you had a low fluid problem. NV5600's use a 5w-30 gear oil, so its going to be thin.
  10. Is this an OEM security system? If so take a peek in your owners manual. I know on my 05 the manual told me how to disable it.
  11. Exactly, if the carter was replaced with a FASS then you have no in-tank.
  12. You couldn't give me a free built auto to run in place of my 6-speed! Have you considered a G56? http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/98-5-02-powertrain/298167-47re-transmission-g56-swap.html http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/98-5-02-powertrain/41978-nv5600-fso6406a-6-speed-fuller.html
  13. Yes it is, and can/should be used over the PF7777.
  14. http://forum.mopar1973man.com/showthread.php/1994-Common-Fuel-Filter-Data This should have most of it!
  15. I realize most those were quotes from other folks, just wanted to put my opinion out there. Best of luck... A fuller 10 speed would be SWEET!
  16. Yep, its the OE filter for the AD. The Donaldson P551315 is a 3um filter, and can also be used on the AD.
  17. Being a NV5600 owner I had read some of the threads on them. To me it seem the no towing in 6th gear was a holdover from the NV4500 5th gear nut issues. The NV5600 seems to be a very stout trans. As for the fluid on the top, I had a friend have his shifter housing come loose and start to leak on him (NV4500), so I wonder if that happened? I would guess you got a leak of sorts and it ran low on fluid to get that hot. I have the FAST coolers on mine and think they make a difference, but have never had a temp gauge in it, and have never ran without them. Cheap insurance, and the extra capacity should allow for longer fluid life.
  18. The coils are stiff to provide the stability needed for the GCWR; so a better riding coil wont preform as well with a load. That being said, my front springs don't seem to squat. I have seen the truck with the front axle within 100lbs of GAWR and its damn near the same height as at curb weight.. Has to be a little room to go softer in there?
  19. My a/c cycles quite a bit. Blows cold as can be thou, was 104* on the road here today and nice an cool in the truck.
  20. Great write-up, but I wont be doing that anytime soon on my CR injectors!
  21. I am quite curious how it works out for you!DP is Drive Pressure.
  22. Those arse wipes work!
  23. The setup you are going for is much like the solenoid setup on a HE351, and from watching my boost gauge it's more of a all or nothing, since the solenoid opens at ~32 psi and the WG is a 22-24psi WG, As soon as the solenoid opens the WG goes full open, dumping a ton of exhaust and the boost drops 4-6 psi almost instantly (unless towing then 2-4), then it builds and holds about 28-30 when empty and 28-32 when towing.. From what I gather with a adjustable elbow you can adjust the air going to the WG so it opens smoothly and slowly at the designated pressure. So you can set it to start opening around 32, which makes it fully open about 35psi, and I think will do a better job of regulating. And even thou the WG opens at 23 psi the hole in the elbow lets the pressure off and the set screw adjusts the flow to the WG, so you can have 35psi in the tubro and only 23 at the WG. Another option for you would be an adj psi switch and a WG solenoid from a HE351. All you would have to do is figure out how to get a bung into the cold pipe.. Or run a HE351, they r cheap! What is the DP on a HX35 at 35psi?
  24. What about a 30psi wastegate, vs a 23 psi wastegate? What turbo are you running?I wanted to stay about 33-35 psi, which is why I got the elbow.. Turns out with my fueling I only get 33-34 normally, so I am good..Have you tried just disabling the WG?The other thing it seems like your doing a lot more than you need, where an adj elbow is designed to do what you just listed, with the same number of parts as stock??
  25. From what I have heard that sounds like a VP44 on the way out.
