  1. I have the APC version of this headlight harness. I bought it before they stopped making them. This harness made a very noticable improvement just with the harness alone with the OEM headlight bulbs. With higher wattage bulbs, I think it would be much more improvement.
  2. Would a heavy duty headlight wire harness like this help? http://www.lmctruck.com/ICATALOG/DE/full.aspx?Page=46
  3. I bought mine at the Oreilly's in Wayneboro, TN. Maybe it is a local or area special. They sent out a sale flyer in the newpaper.
  4. No, I bought 8 gallons and the wife bought 8 gallons for her truck. She stopped in again this morning while dropping the kids off at school and there was one case left so she grabbed it. I opened up a case to check the bottle info. and these appear to be older stock that is rated CI-4 but it is just fine for our trucks.
  5. Make that 20 gallons for me. The wife stopped by again this morning and got the last case they had in the store. How much is Walmart charging for Delo 1300. It is good oil also. O'reillys was charging $13.99 a gallon for it so I went with the Valvoline.
  6. It runs off of vaccum. You will have to cut out some firewall insulation and apply a template to mark drilling holes for the the vaccum manifold. You will have to de-pin and re-pin the ECM cannon plug and run the wiring through the firewall. It is about a 6 hour job, maybe a little less for others. $750 is an outrage of a high price. Maybe prices have gone up a bit since I bought mine, but I paid about $600 a couple of years ago. Here is a little bit of tech poop on what kind of breaking power they will produce for you: https://quickserve.cummins.com/info/qsol/products/newparts/jacobs_md_nondodge.html I purchased my Cummins eBrake from Cummins S.E. Power 1-800-733-6101. Ask for Wendy (if she is still there) I believe the eBrake kit Cummins part # is: 4090046 I STRONGLY recommend installing the stalk switch on the gear shifter, it has the cool looking Cummins logo and is a LOT more natural to use. The Cummins part # is: 4089657 You will have to wire it in with the exhaust brake master switch and leave the master on all the time and use the stalk switch to turn on and off.
  7. I picked up 16 gallons today. Just thought I would pass along the info. for anyone else who is looking for a good deal on Valvoline Premium Blue. Regualr price is $13.99 a gallon.
  8. Sounds like your AirDog fuel pressure may a bit high. You might want to call Pure Flow Tech. and get some help on shimming down or adjusting the pressure to within acceptable limits. Too high a fuel pressue can damage the injector pump. Best to fix it right and not have any more problems.
  9. On a previously owned Suburban, the factory radiator trans cooler was routed into an auxiliary transmission oil cooler mounted in front of the A/C condenser. Not always the best place to mount a trans oil cooler due to A/C condenser heat. I would suggest diverting the return to the transmission of the factory trans. oil cooler and route it to the auxiliary cooler and then route back to the transmission oil return line. That way you are using both oil coolers. I would definitely inspect/clean the radiator as mentioned but when a transmission over heats, it can sometimes cause the engine to over heat as well due to the extreme amount of heat the radiator is absorbing. I would try to find a place in front of the radiator but away from the A/C condenser to mount the auxiliary trans oil cooler. That way is will get plenty of cool air, at least as much as is possible. Another item you may want to consider adding is a Mag Hytec Double Deeper transmission oil pan. They are expensive but they double the amount of oil your trans pan holds as well as increase cooling surface area in addition to cooling fins. http://www.mag-hytec.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1_8&products_id=7&zenid=eb112aebace261c01d5ebab70930df83 Be sure to ask about crossmember clearance and any other issues that may affect pan clearance. This is a BIG pan but it makes a HUGE difference. I had a 4L80E that continuously over heated when towing heavy, I installed one of these pans and it made a HUGE difference and improvement.
  10. Something like this should help.....the electric fan cooler at the bottom good for 26,000 lbs. at the bottom of the page: http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/html/hd-oil-coolers.html#45265
  11. Cops and SWAT team folks DO NOT like these little jewels. Definitely not an eye safe laser.
  12. Maybe I got more than that out on the slope. After I was done, I checked the coolant with a coolant tester and it was good well into the negative numbers, I forgot exactly how much but it was enough that I am not concerned that it will ever get that cold in the lower 48 states.
  13. I parked my truck nose down on a very steep incline and got about 5.5 gallons out of mine. I replaced my coolant with Shell Extended Life Coolant 50/50 Premix.
  14. I think a full compression check of the engine may be in order before you replace anything. A bad or washed out cylinder could be a cause. Hopefully my suspicion is wrong.
  15. Along the lines of the above mentioned, have you ever drained and flushed the cooling system and replaced the coolant? Over time the coolant can break down and allow corrosion to restrict or plug up the raditiator cores. Sometimes when this happens, the only option is a new radiator or to rod and hot tank the radiator. The other possibility is the water pump.
  16. This may be out in left field and off the troubleshooting track but 20 psi fuel pressure is borderline to high fuel pressure. What fuel pressure are you showing during start attemtps? High fuel pressure to the VP-44 can create a hard start condition: http://www.bluechipdiesel.com/vp44diagnostichelp.html http://www.bluechipdiesel.com/diagnoseliftpump.html
  17. I got fed up with the Goodyear "MaraBOMB" tires. Goodyear does NOT stand behind the product and after a few years they are long out of warranty. I paid over $90 each for these pieces of crap and about 4 years later these tires started exploding in my driveway standing still, parked. I have since found that plain old cheap ___ trailer tires do just fine. NO tire is going to last more than about 3 to 4 years due to deterioration of the tire belt adheasives and other materials that weaken with age. I changed over to Taskmaster tires that have done just fine and are about 1/3 the price. At least they were when I bought mine: http://www.taskmasterproducts.com/acatalog/tires_15_6.html http://www.taskmasterproducts.com/acatalog/tires_15_8.html I bought my trailer tires several years ago from these folks and drove up to there warehouse and bought a pickup truck load of tires for my trailer and boat trailer, plus a few extra for a friend. Good folks to work with.
  18. Genos Garage carries these kits too for anyone else who may need one: http://www.genosgarage.com/prodinfo.asp?number=LB-R90SS http://www.genosgarage.com/prodinfo.asp?number=LB-2791 http://www.genosgarage.com/prodinfo.asp?number=LB-3160
  19. It would be interesting to see how much crank case blow by there is on the typical 24V and under what conditions it blows the most?
  20. VERY NICE! Those things are a LOT quieter too.
  21. Don't forget to check for codes. My truck just very smoothly died off to 0 rpm when mine ran out of fuel. My fuel gauge with still showing a 1/3 of a tank but I was going down hill too.
  22. Looks like a nice candidate for a future resto project.
  23. I suggest installating a fuel pressure test gauge and see what your cranking fuel pressure is. http://www.vulcanperformance.com/Fuel-Pressure-Tester-with-Schrader-Connection-p/fpt.htm If it is too high, this can cause hard starting. http://www.bluechipdiesel.com/vp44diagnostichelp.html
  24. You may want to rethink that. Our neo-progressive Marxist regime called government says otherwise: http://www.michigan.gov/documents/DLEGbiodieselFAQs_157925_7.pdf http://www.southeastdiesel.org/Photos/So%20you%20want%20to%20make%20biodiesel11.15.07.pdf http://desertbiofuels.org/attachments/046_ArizonaBiodieselRegulatoryEnvironment.pdf http://www.dornc.com/downloads/gas1262_mfapp.pdf http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8864.pdf I think biodiesel is definitely cool. If you make it, DON'T sell to ANYONE you don't know REALLY well and knows to keep their mouth shut about it or just don't sell and DON'T say a word about making it to anyone. Definitely DO NOT put bumper stickers on your truck bragging about how you are burning home brew biodiesel. The IRS, EPA, state and local agencies all like to get their hooks into the tax revenue.
