  1. Yeah I wouldn't leave the engine running when spraying carb cleaner in it. I said take the intercooler tube off so none of the cleaner would get in it, and when it's running, where is all the grit it is cleaning going?.. I would spray it and toothbrush the fins then hose it so no carb cleaner gets in the intercooler at all.
  2. I think the best way is to push in the clutch and get in the next gear and let back out on clutch as the engine rpm drops. Eh, let me elaborate.. When you are doing the thing without the clutch, you are matching rpm to trans rpm.. By getting it in the next gear as the engine rpm drops and letting out right as the engine drops to where the next gear will be at that speed, you basically reduce most clutch wear since they are synced. You have to be quick at this obviously. I notice you have a lot of leeway with a 24v, they seem to rev down much slower than mine. I have to really go fast at shifting to hit the syncs but I think it could be done easily on a 24v. By doing it that way, you can reduce clutch wear and make it last a very very long time and ensure your synchros last just as long. Mine need replacing and it will hardly go into 2nd unless I am going <5mph. If you are good at syncing the gears, to the point the syncros aren't having to do anything, then I don't see any problem.
  3. I don't see anything wrong with the carb cleaner. I would disconnect the hose going to the engine and spray it all out and get it clean then hose it with water then hook the intercooler tube back up and start it so it dries all the water.
  4. Just got back home, finally. I wasn't able to fill it up after the 80mph run since it costs half my soul but I am going to judge it was around 33 gallons for 650 miles so thats 19.69mpg. Way over my 2mpg/5mph theory which would have theorized around 17mpg. I really did beat the crap out of it so I don't see how it gets so good. Musta been the 2 stroke! On the way back I did 60 the whole way and, not sure what it got since I didn't top it off but from what I could tell, I think it would be pretty close to the expected 25mpg. I am going to top it off for the weekend and run home and back at 50 since traffic was a little too much to try it on the way back here today. That will get me 180 miles worth of testing on some hills and curves.
  5. Mine has that same ticking sound. Only thing I can do to get it to not be as loud is run B20, which has ultra amounts of lube in it. I think it's the lift pump. Thought it might be an injector but the more I think about it and test things, I don't think it's an injector. One time it REALLY ticked, I mean like a ball peen hammer tick, it only happened at lower RPM's, below 2000 I think. I instantly topped off with B20 and it went away. The fact that it isn't a very fast tick makes me think it's the fuel pump, I believe it goes at half the RPM of the engine and runs off the cam. Not exactly sure why it would tick though. Tell me more about what you have noticed concerning it..
  6. I just went went to michigan, today, as in right now lol. I screwed up and ended up being around 600 miles on 3/4 tank, maybe a little more. I did 80 the entire way. Will be interesting to see what I get. I am gonna go 50mph for at least 200 miles on the way back. Should have numbers for you all by monday.
  7. Just take the engine out to do the KDP fix Actually just take the radiator/intercooler/bumper/fan all that off and it would be as good of access as any. Doesn't take long to take all that stuff off.

  9. That guy was a little too fit of an old guy though. I want to see someone with a walker do that
  10. I think I have seen you post that vid before Or maybe I just expect something like that from you
  11. 60 is plenty. Mine is only 35 and thats about right where I max out. I think I would get a 40, though I don't think you will be seeing much over 30-35.
  12. You all got me wondering on this RPM thing. They say a governor spring kit does not defuel until it gets to the springs rating, so a 3GSK will run hard up to 3k then defuel. Well I thought mine was stock. The breakaway screw was still there and everything but I have people tell me I have a 3GSK and I always say no. However, one time I held it to the floor in neutral and it hit 3500.. So now I am beginning to wonder. I keep denying it because I was sworn it was stock but I think I need to face facts.. It does pull hard to 3k also. Guess it isn't stock :banghead:
  13. I always wondered where they came up with that. I guess by definition idling is "not doing work" but they could just call it neutral WOT or something. Maybe call elevated idle something like 2 over idle.. Meaning 200rpm over idle. I don't know. It's definitely something that can be taken many ways.
  14. I just got my muffler from freightliner. Told them I wanted the same muffler semi trucks use since it goes in and out using 5". The inside has this swirl perforated stuff and you can see through it too. Tight fit under the truck though It was $75.
  15. $10? Are you serious? I thought it would cost me a fortune. Mine is to the point the vents will take a minute to changeover from defrost or they won't even bother changing, then 10 minutes later it will change. I think the vacuum lines are pretty crappy too though. I got a 90 that looks like it kinks it but not sure how else to do it.
  16. Alright. Heres proof that global warming is a hoax. My back yard, Missouri, today, 866ft elevation...
  17. The valves might be out of whack if they have never been adjusted. You might go through them and get them all squared away. Injectors should last a lot longer than 4-5 years and I really doubt yours are fouled. Being where the warmer weather is you really don't get cold enough to have the level of incomplete combustion that the freezing people encounter, therefore you shouldn't have much or as much, carbon buildup. The grid heater is debatable. There was a time when my truck would start at 0F without waiting for the grids and it wouldn't stutter or smoke at all, it started like it was 90F out. Doing this just for your enjoyment however, has negative effects. Right before I had the excuse of advanced timing, it would stutter at 0F using the grids.. The compression isn't what it used to be, and it smokes now. I am not sure at what temperature these negative effects start to happen. Might only be below freezing. Then again, the truck itself uses grids up til 60F. Maybe there is a reason for that. Nevertheless, I doubt this is your problem.
  18. Well today I started my truck at 5F and scraping on the INSIDE of the windshield.. First time in my life
  19. I keep thinking it must be happening because the weather around here is so screwed up. We got up to 63F a few weeks ago and just days before that we were seeing single digit lows. But then if you look at records for highs and lows you see that there have been extremes for the last hundred years so nothing has changed.
  20. Are new hard drives that bad!? Mine are all ancient, including maybe 10, 4GB scsi drives. Probably 25 total in the house. None of them have failed. Not even the ones I took apart to watch the head go back and forth
  21. If you have ever read about people with the same truck as my ford, you will always see them saying they can pull anything....slowlyy. Frontal area of a trailer absolutely kills that thing. So you have to go slow enough as to not have any wind resistance I think mine is a little wore out and isn't that bad for a decent one but if you have seen the trailer I pull, I would be on level ground 65mph highway, and once I finally got to 60mph, I would let off and give it a chance to go into O/D, then I would get on it again and it wouldn't hold, it just fell on it's face and lost speed like crazy, so you would turn O/D back off and hold it to the floor just to go 60mph. Be interesting to see how the later IDI turbo editions held up with a load. I find it so interesting how maintaining speed on a level hill takes so little effort with the cummins. I have never rode with anyone pulling these 10k+ loads, oh wait, I rode with a guy who had about 50k worth of I-beams on a 40ft gooseneck on his V10 dodge auto. It topped out at 25 with that load. We had to back up a hill to unload it all and it would only make it 30ft or so up the very slight hill, no wheel spin and it was to the floor, just out of power
  22. Hmm, I'll just keep my opinions to myself from now on
  23. Now that would be fun! The only time I have ever seen over 20psi to maintain speed was when I went to branson going up those steep long hills right north of town at 80-85mph. It was 90F out so I was seeing about 1000F. The only person keeping up with me was a jetta tdi
  24. Interesting. Neat how cool the EGT's are with an ungodly amount of weight When I say wall I mean it goes to 900F and really does just stop. I start going up hills with the trailer and it doesn't go any higher. This is just maintaining speed.. If I step on it I have seen it above 1500.
  25. I see your point. Guess I just don't see it as being much different than any other problem people face. You pay them and your done with them. If you have trouble, then you cancel the Dish network, turn some things off, live a little more financially sane. I know they take a big cut though. My brother worked 2 jobs, 80 hours a week and ended up paying, I think $5000. Wasn't good because this was during $4/gal times and he drove 80 miles a day. I don't think he made a profit at all and when the tax thing came up, it really took him by surprise. I think he finally got that paid off, and it was years ago. However, my brother is not very financially sane and pretty much blows every penny on stuff and thinks he shouldn't have to pay for anything, including electricity, so of course he wasn't expecting people to want money from him when he saw no product from them.. I think people who know better shouldn't be as affected as him. But I do see your point. It sucks seeing $600 then finding out it's $500 after taxes. You pretty well just have to put the horse blinds on and act like you only make $500 and not think about the taxes. Not like you can get around them. Basically worrying about something you can't evade. Run for president and I will vote you in and you can change it all. But how will we raise money for the army and education?
