Madness...
With man made climate change*, it's never to early for snow. Don't forget to do your part to reduce your carbon footprint. 1. Car pool with a stranger. 2. Heat your home with warm thoughts. 3. Don't eat beef, Eat more chicken. Cattle consumes large amounts of feed and produce a large volume of methane gas, a known greenhouse gas, were as chickens eat dirt and are gasless. 4. Buy your man made carbon credits to pay the State mandated man made carbon tax. *previously known as global warming I let that last guy drive my truck. All I got back was a couple of washers.

Fuel line question
Top is the brake line, middle return to tank, bottom is fuel supply. With the Fuel Boss pump I use the fuel supply line as a return line T into the filler neck.

Howdy everyone, it's been awhile.
Good to hear from you again. Glad all is well. After the last go around of storms and flooding you raised your house up off the ground. How's that working out for you?

Advice before purchase
Take your time, have it checked out by someone that is well knowledgeable about that year and model truck. Just because a guy has tools and is breathing doesn't make him a mechanic much less qualified to inspect a diesel truck . If you fined a truck and want to have it checked out don't fall for "Well I've got someone else coming over to look at it and he seemed pretty interested in buying it". If the seller is being honest then he won't care who looks it over. When towing a trailer over 2000lb a trailer brake controller is a must and make sure the trailer brakes are in good condition. You'll need to pull the drums for that and might as well repack the bearings while your in there. I had my trailer plug disconnect from the truck one time which disabled the trailer's electric brakes, I felt like Freddy Flintstone trying to stop all that weight.

fuel tank interior spout pre and post 1999
My main service area is north San Diego County and the very south west part of Riverside County. Lake Forest is in Orange County, about 60 miles from me, and just north of Mission Viejo where I had worked for a Volvo dealer back in the early 80's. If you're at your sons house and need help call me, I'll be there.

Anyone Ever Travel/ Camp the Black Hills of N. Dakota?
My wife and I are planning our next trip and the Dakotas are going to be included . I want to go the first week of May and Jennifer wants to go the first week of September. We'll be on the road for three to four weeks going to other states. When's the best time to see those states, Spring or Fall? I do plan on seeing the Badlands, Mount Rushmore and the Black Hills. What are the other must see spots and don't tell me it's Sturgis?

Coolant hoses original in 2001/ time for new?
Before I went on vacation I bought a set of replacement hoses from RockAuto. They don't cost that much. My original hoses, had just over 94,000mi on them and still looked good so the new hoses went under the back seat. Ran the truck over 4,000mi and 110hr pulling an 8,000lb 5th wheel, hoses still look good and had the peace of mind that the hoses were there if I needed them. I also put a new Timbos APP under there but what I really needed under the seat was a VP44.

If I am going to do tie rod ends and steering components
Is the clunk in the suspension when going over bumps or when steering right to left-left to right. I'm asking this because a clunk when steering can come from the steering column bushing being worn.

Disrespectful kids
Saw this truck in front of the Post Office in downtown Riggins, ID when I was stuck there waiting for the vp44. Now I know why the town dog was chasing it.

Are you running the oil from McDonald's deep fryer in your truck again?

Towing a 3500 after major breakdown.
I'm still an 8 track man, myself

Starting issues
Sounds like you have 2 problems. 1. P0336 : crank shaft position sensor going bad or bad connection at the sensor causing the no start problem . 2. Starter sounding weak turns over slowly. Since you tested/replaced the batteries, they can be ruled out as the problem. Do a voltage drop test of the cable/terminals between the batteries, battery and starter and also the grounds. If they test O K then the starter motor has either bad contacts in the solenoid or a bad winding in the armature.

Fuel tank straps
That's why he drives a Powerstroke and you have a Cummins.

Frantz oil filter any input/updates?
What I've seen after servicing thousands of car over 45 years is you're wasting your money with a dino oil change done with less than 5,000 mi and the additive package that keep varnish and sludge from forming starts to brake down after 7,500 mi. I feel comfortable changing full synthetic oil at 7,500 to 10,000 miles.

Towing a 3500 after major breakdown.
Have a good tow policy. I have the AAA premier 200 mile with RV policy so when my vp44 went out north of Riggins ID they came with a flat bed for the truck and a pick-up with a 5th wheel hitch for my trailer. This took about 2 hours. The cost of the policy is $200 a year ($16.66 a month) but I also use their DMV services, maps, travel service among other things they offer. It also helps to break down within a few miles of some one you know that can lend a hand in time of need.
