Winter blues
That's one of the last good things about living in CA; camp year round. Last weeks camp trip to Haystack Mountain, at an elevation of 3700', the highs were 58°-65° during the day with the night temps between 31°-36°. My next trip will be to the Bridgeport, CA area in May, that's where @JAG1comes down from Oregon and joins us.

Should I get a cold air intake for my 5.9 Cummins?
The reason Nappa charges so much is they're real proud of their stuff. When I was at Moparman's house this spring and needed a front wheel hub the Nappa in Mc Call, ID wanted $207 and take 2-3 days to get it where as the Orielly"s in Lewiston, ID had one in stock and cost me less than $160. Luck would have it that Mike was going to Lewiston shopping with Wet Vette and could pick it up for me.

Here is a list of BHAF I made a few years ago. Big Honking Air Filter - Air & Exhaust - Mopar1973Man's Dodge Cummins Forum https://mopar1973man.com/cummins/articles.html/24-valve-2nd-generation_50/51_engine/air-exhaust_56/big-honking-air-filter-r566/

Nappa sells reboxed Wix filters. Wix's part #42790 and Nappa part #2790.

Haystack Mountain
I'd be contemplating that while sitting in a CA jail for being noncompliant. Yes, we were antisocial the whole time. The closest camper was about 1/2 mile away on the other side of the mountain. I have two golf cart 6 volt battery's in series, a 1500 watt inverter, and a 2k watt generator all in the front compartment of the 5er. You can see my 5er and the open compartment in the second picture above. The generator gets real quite when I turn my hearing aids off and the closest shade tree is over 3 miles away.

Haystack Mountain
Yes, as long as the guns are CA compliant and we follow state and federal regulations.

Haystack Mountain
Haystack Mountain is a free camping area on BLM land east of Lone Pine, CA in the Owens Valley between the Sierra Nevada Mountains to the west and the White Mountains to the east. We go there for our annual shooting weekend with pistols, *****, and rifles, out to 600YD, during the day followed by tall tales told around the campfire at night. There were nine of use this time. looking to the east and the White Mountains. Our modest camp site. Looking west with sunset over the Sierra Nevada Mountains

Fuel tank questions
No. The vent on top of the fuel sending unit is most likely blocked. Install a relay, which is controlled by the ECM, to turn on and off the fuel pump; this will turn off the pump if in an accident. https://mopar1973man.com/cummins/articles.html/24-valve-2nd-generation_50/51_engine/59_fuel/installing-protective-lift-pump-relay-r501/

Trump for Congress
He doesn't need CA. He can be a congressman from FL where he lives.

Battery group size?
There is a modification that can be done to fit group 31 batteries. https://mopar1973man.com/cummins/articles.html/24-valve-2nd-generation_50/51_engine/electrical/group-31-battery-modifications-to-a-2nd-gen-ram-r677/

Battery Temp Sensor question
These are the readings when I measured the current on the blue wire with the following on: engine, headlights, radio, fan motor high speed, and NO grid heaters. I added a 7.5 amp fuse in the blue wire where @Mopar1973Manopted for a 5 amp fuse. Some members that have done this modification reported that the installed 5 amp fuse would blow but the 7.5 would hold. 12.06 vdc 4.53 amp

Battery Temp Sensor question
You would think if a grid heater insulator was bad and shorting to ground then the fusible link in the cable between the battery and the relay for that grid heater would open circuit

(Any former military on here?) I'm seeking guidance for choosing an MOS
In '71' I was 1A and my lottery number was 309. They sent me a new classification card, 4H. I still have my draft card, didn't burn it, but lost all of my classification cards. 45 years for me last month.

VP44 DAP
Also, check alternator charging rate with full charged batteries. It should be 14∓.5 volts.
-
VP44 DAP
First with a volt meter test combined battery voltage. if below 12 volts test each battery's voltage and charge as needed. Once charged check condition of both batteries; check for shorted cell or other problems. If batteries test OK then do a peracetic voltage draw test. If battery voltage is above 12 volts the check battery cables by doing a voltage drop test and starter motor.

VP44 return line question
How about the filler neck? That's where the Fuel Boss pump dumps the extra fuel.

Good tow turbo setup for near stock 24v
Yes, but the locked up shift isn't as bad as the locked down shift. I back off the fuel peddle before manually up shifting when locked; this reduces line pressure and gives a smooth engagement. Take your time, gather all the parts you need and lay it out on a piece of cardboard for the markup and assembly.

In 1986 we thought we were voting for clean water and a reduction of cancer causing agents. Now, everything sold in the state has to be tested for carcinogens and if found the idem has a prop 65 warning label put on it. You can see that some manufactures don't submit their products for testing so they can't be sold here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1986_California_Proposition_65

That's almost a prohibitive shipping cost. I went to Rock Auto to see how much my cost would be and this showed up. Part # CH1241186 cannot ship to California because we do not have documentation required by Proposition 65 from VARIOUS MFR. Please choose a different brand. I've heard that Sapporo beer cans make excellent patching material.
