2nd Generation Dodge Non-Powertrain

Discussion of the 1994 to 2002 2nd Generation Dodge Ram Trucks with 5.9L Cummins Turbo Diesel non-power train. This includes interior, air conditioning, heating, lighting, body, suspension, brakes, stereos, etc.

  1. I ordered a Curt 56071 but upon install, found my truck doesnt have any plugs. Ive put these in the bed of other dodge trucks in the past and its a simple plug and play. Did some trucks not come with plugs? My truck came with trailer tow group and has the 7 way plug under the bumper but it looks like a universal style plug. I guess the po may have changed it out for some reason. Should I try to find a factory unit from a wrecking yard and then splice a plug into my harness? I really hate wiring and being color blind has never helped.

As the title says all my heat and ac are going to defrost. My vacuum lines are all connected and I have vacuum at the pump, at the 90 on the fire wall and at the 90 that turns into the firewall to the hvac. I do not have vacuum at the switch. I cannot seem to find a pin out, for lack of a better term, for the connection to the controls. I am assuming the black tube is the one supplying vacuum to the controls. Not sure that matters since I can feel no vacuum at any point on the connector. I am seriously thing of capping the line at the passenger side firewall and just bringing a new one thru the driverside straight to the connector. Does any one know if that supply line co…

Done it again another set of cheap WalMart seat covers and made them fit like they were meant too. I'm good for another 100k miles again! I got a set of Dickies Seat Covers and with a bit of trim work for the seat belt, they look great!

  4. I took out the heavy duty lift coils and put my stock front coil springs back in. With the lift, the drag link adjusting sleeve was maxed out with the threaded ends butting each other in the sleeve. So I cut 3/4” off each threaded end so they wouldn’t bottom out. Now I have a huge gap between the threaded ends with everything roughly aligned by me. Is this a weak point or don’t worry. This is on my 01 with 2010 T style steering.

  5. Right, my Dodge has developed another minor issue, I'm starting to remember why I bought a nearly brand new car in the first place. Anyway, the issue is this: My brake lights, seem to alter the indicators, indicating. For lack of a better way to explain it, usually you have the indicators going "tick tick tick", but when I press the brake pedal they go "tick.............tick...............tick", there's a pretty long pause between flashes. As the indicator in the instrument panel stays veeery dimly lit between flashes, I assume it's a ground issue somewhere, something, somewhere, is grounding where it shouldn't. I'm suspecting one of the taillights, perha…

My trucks wipers dont work, when you turn the switch it just blows the fuse. I was going to verify its the wiper motor but the wipers are stuck down, and you have to have the passenger arm up to clear the hood so that you can release tension on the arm. Any tips on gettings these arms off without being able to lift them up and any thoughts on what could be wrong here? Thanks

  7. Hey guys, I'm looking for some recommendations on what ball joints U joints and wheel bearings I should get. It's for a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 Cummins. It has the drum brakes in the rear so I'm assuming it's the 2 wheel ABS for the wheel bearings. Just looking for something good that's not going to fail in 5k miles. And the ball joints I don't care if they're greasable or not. I've been hearing Moog has gone downhill and pretty much avoid them for the balljoints and if i'm not mistaken i've seen mopar1973man recommend duralast but I was looking them up and it appears they are manufactured by Federal mogul as well, so kinda thrown off on what brands I shoul…

I have spent the past 2 days of my weekend replacing my severly cracked dash and a leaky heater core. In the process I also replaced my ac evap core. My heat had gotten to the point of the only way to regulate it was thru the windows. By that I mean the heat on full blast and opening a window when it got to warm, which was not to often since hy heater was not putting out alot anyway. I installed a new core and the Heater Treater part I heard so much about. The oe part for the blend door was broken and I am glad I had it on hand.I bought a replacement dash from LMC. The color match was spot on. The fit was very good. It was a fairly straight forward replacement. 90% of the…

When rolling up my driver's side window, it'll start to chatter about half way up, or right when that leading corner hits the weatherstripping. Has anyone else experienced that? Do I get some silicone lubricant in there? Or replace the weatherstrip?

  10. Figured as long as I am going to clean the bottom side of the engine looking for a leak, we should talk about cleaning/detailing the top of the engine and the rest of the engine bay as well. engine on or engine off while hosing and degreasing? cover electronics/alternator or don’t cover? (If cover what are you using?) BHAF of course should be covered or removed, but stock airbox? is there a good dry enough finishing product worth putting on? thats a good start, I would love to hear what everyone uses and their method. Obviously pictures are always a bonus.

I read somewhere that fuel pressure has to be 7-9 p.s.i. for the engine to start and higher pressures will cause a hard start condition. I also read the ECM controls this by rapid on/off pulses in the circuit to slow the lift pump pressure down for easy starts. After the engine is running the ECM knows to keep a steady voltage to power the lift pump or in our case, to trigger the relay used to power the lift pump off the battery. If this is true shouldn't we be changing the lift pump relays more often, often enough to keep the contacts in new condition? As I understand it, the constant use of a relay has a greater chance of poorly connecting, burned contacts f…

I thought I would share my experience with my driver's seat cushion and cover. I bought both of them from Genos. The cushion is their "high density" cushion and direct replacement cover. Both were super nice quality and replacement was super simple with their directions. 4 Phillips screws for the lever and plastic trim piece, 4 bolts for the seat cushion (10mm socket and combination wrench). Hog ring pliers would have been helpful, but 2 pairs of needle nose pilliers and a pair of slip joint plies, a little bit of muscle, and done!! One thing I found was that 2 of the springs we're disconnected and that allowed the front cross rod to slide …

My front axle is way off center as in at least 1.5 or more inches too the drivers side of he truck. I just replaced track bar a month ago and it wasn’t like that. How do I resented the axle? I’m planning to rebuild the entire front end with the axle swap that is coming soon. New everything. Tie rods, ends, sway bar, stabilizer, etc.

Hi All, Well is shouldn't be this hard, but it wants to be. Got up and headed for the airport at 3:30 A.M. Noticed the Truck reverse lights were on. Went back and got the keys and cycled the shifter. No difference. Got back this morning and replaced the Neutral safety switch and Reverse light switch. So reading the linkage adjustment page, I can see nothing wrong. The truck starts in Neutral and Park only. So why are the Back-up lights still on 24 / 7, with a new switch???? I metered the voltage it's a solid 12 volts. Any suggestions? Only thing that I can think of is the wires have rubbed through? Gremlins TIA M…
