Stalled and Won't Restart
Sorry I was gone for a few days... Ok as for the P1688 error code it basically states the electronics on the VP44 have failed completely. The VP44 is brain dead and no longer listening to the ECM... So VP44 replace is required... My only question is what is your fuel pressure like?

Rodent Combat!!
Well I've got a set of ultrasonic boxes and mothballs tuck in the frame and covered tanks... So far absolutely no sign... Even the 2 cars under the spurce tree have Ultrasonic boxes and mothballs and there is no sign there really...

Big Folks..
Well I'm 6'2"... As you can see I'm not short by any means... So reaching out to grab the arm rest and it just not happening... It took me two tries jumping to get up on the monster chair... But at least we both can sit with the big folks now... Never the less Mopar Mom was laugh her tail off as well when I slid back in the chair and it just a pair of boot and my head...

What Brake Pads are you using? 3500
With a lockup controller you can have a exhaust brake... Talk to CajFlynn he's had a exhaust brake on his truck. (Auto)

Typically towards the coolant bottle is the direction for the alternator but if the belt is slipping you might look and see if the belt is all glazed up from oil or from a weak tensioner.

As for the front end and the amount of rust I would deal with any and all part that are rusted and damaged. As for ball joints they are not fun to do...
