  1. Most people on this site are in a cell phone area of some sort. So there is no need to worry about carrying parts and tools too much unless you running long distances across the country then things are a bit different. Again for the majority of people on the site and daily driving yeah cell phone and connection to friends and services will do just find. I'm an exception to the rule being I'm remote and no cell service and travel a lot of dirt roads and back country. The biggest thing is taking the time to just inspect your vehicle once in awhile and ensure everything is in working order. You won't find everything wrong or spot every issue but just taking the time to look it over it going to help a bunch.
  2. I don't bother with too much stuff. I carry more to keep me alive than the truck. I've got day pack with MRE, water, first aid, and other miscellaneous clothing. I would rather walk out and get my vehicle towed home than worrying about carrying all the extra parts, tools for installing said parts, etc. All the parts and tools are heavy compared to a small day pack that weighs less than 20 pounds. What happens if your truck failure isn't one of the parts your carrying and/or your not carrying the tools for said repair? For example when my mainshaft failed in my transmission. Are you going to be able to sustain your own life while you get to help? For me there is no cell service and I might be several miles back in the back country like the photo below being over 30 miles from a town.
  3. My Airdog 150 is 11 years old and still going. There is over 200k miles on it trouble free...
  4. There is rebuild kits with bearings if you do some digging around. I've seen a few. I'm sure there is bearings made for the output shaft. Remanufacturing the steering box is fairly easy and straight forward.
  5. Loss of prime is a air leak issue. Like Hex0rz truck his was a injector problem. After changing the injectors the problem went away. So it could be a injector not sealing properly. Return line leak, drawing air in. It could be a supply line problem where its drawing air in on the suction side and draining the line out causing it to push an air bubble to the VP44.
  6. I'm going to guess the sensor is broke. I would pull it out and inspect it. Shouldn't wiggle at all. Might want to fill out your signature with your truck specs so we can help you better. Assuming its a early 24V with cam and crank then the crank is the signal for tach and used with the VP44 signal for fueling.
  7. Sorry, there is no information on the internal part of the ECM that I know as of right now.
  8. I'm heading to 11 years of service from my AirDog 150 still working perfectly fine. I do not carry any spare pumps or part in my truck. Just monitor the fuel pressure gauge and go from there. Always a clue that something is wrong by watching the fuel pressure.
  9. I just made he trip to Boise and delivered my laptop down for Mom to use. So hopefully she doesn't get too hung up with the computer (minor issues). Just got back from 7 hours of driver down and back... Whew!
  10. All stored right here plenty to read from wiring diagrams to tech articles... https://mopar1973man.com/cummins/articles.html/24-valve-2nd-generation/
  11. Agreed. I would go back to Bosch OE overflow valve. The never fail I've got 12 years on mine and 220k miles still going fine. The fuel pressure of the AirDog is the important thing than overflow valve.
  12. Cummins sells the o-rings for the return line. I think Geno's garage does to.
  13. If you got a Airdog or Raptor you might have a leaking quick connect fitting. Might have to talk to Eric at Vulcan to get the fittings for Parker Push Loc fitting and convert over to stop the prime loss.
  14. Check your alternator AC noise voltage and see how much your making. 0.01 to 0.03 AC volts is normal above that issues start to grow. 90% of all ECM problems stem from bad alternators.
  15. More aggressive the tire the more rolling resistance. Typically also that have more weight so giving them more rotational mass. So its a fine line of balance between traction and losses (rotational mass and rolling resistance).
  16. As for the wiring you should be able to pull the dash bezel and the headlight switch to see where it going. Another way is to pull the knee bolster and look up at the wiring where its going. So the existing wiring is a ISSPro setup which is all daisy chained. Red and black is the power and ground. Yellow should be the lighting, The other wires are separate for each gauge which will be the senders.
  17. Better news... Mom called tonight asking for me to setup my laptop for her so she can get on the web site and say "Hi" to everyone. So on Monday I'm going to haul back down and deliver my laptop to her so she can surf the web and do more normal things. She is not much for watching TV. Gotta keep her entertained...
  18. Called and checked on Mom. She is doing another round of dialysis today. She appears to be gaining back her kidney function. She is up walking the hallway with a walker for PT. Still going forward in a positive direction.
  19. Ok... Progress made. I built two custom tunes now. An empty truck tune and towing tune. The difference between the two is pretty mild really. The towing tune works awesome. I've got 6* of timing and only 1200ms of wire tap on a 7 level tune. So running level 4 EGT's stay in check and pull all grades 6-7% without a problem I can gear down into 4th set the cruise for 55 MPH and the EGT's hover at 1,000 to barely 1,100*F. MPG is vastly improved. Pulling a 6% grade I had some try and challenge me on a merge... (Giggle) I squeezed the throttle a bit more to pull away. The rear of the truck arched up and the tires broke loose at 55 MPH (4th gear) on dry pavement heading up grade with the RV hitched up... As for my empty truck tune I kicked the timing up to 10* and 2000ms of wire tap. Extremely strong and just a very light haze of smoke for the most part. I want to play with this now since I'm home and unhitch from the RV. I'll grab my fuel log book and post my MPG's from my trips to Boise and Home. Post them later on tonight.
  20. Sure don't tow the trailer worth a darn...
  21. Sure puts new meaning to "Achieve Your Destination". I'm glad the old Cummins and the little half ton has been up to the task. This is the second time they saved a life. I'm glad I've designed my trucks around efficiency and longevity.
  22. I know it a while for an update. Mom is doing good. She is still walking the halls for PT. She is eating good. She is being transfered to Rehab Hospital today at 1pm. I've made arrangements to take Diesel the dog over by the door s9 Mom can see diesel today. Afterwards I've got to get shopping stock up for home. I'll be heading home Friday Morning. Taz (Kelly) is coming down to my place to help out cleaning up the house. Mom will be on her own after that. I'm going to come down on weekends to visit with her. I'll be staying in touch with her by phone through the week. All in all she is doing good. Thank you all for the support and prayers.
  23. When i get home I'll dig up the article. Pretty sure my number are right. You know how old age plays tricks on your mind.
  24. Tidbit... When I bought my injectors from Vulcan Performance I had random misfire issue at one point. Call Eric and I mailed the injectors back and tested and flow checked for free. The only difference I was still under warranty though. This why I kept my stock injectors so I have a fall back set.
