  1. So what made the popping noise
  2. @Tractorman thanks for explaining.... I got it now basically the biggest restriction in my mind are small fuel lines and crappy lift pumps that fail or can't keep up at higher loads and vain pump has to work extra hard to suck fuel from the tank through all the bs. So if someone mounted a fuel tank above the vp and ran a 1/2" line to the inlet you really wouldn't need a lift pump then. There would be enough pressure just because the tank is above the pump and enough flow through a bigger line that it would never cavitate. The way I see it lubrication is more of a concern then keeping 17-20 psi to the vp. I see the reasoning behind the idea of keeping good pressure to the vp just for the simple insurance that it has fuel at higher loads. That's why on normal use going down the hwy if you lose the lift pump truck keeps going, because the vane pump has no issues pooling the fuel but as soon as you step on it and load increases then the vain pump struggles to keep pooling fuel and truck stumbles and runs like crap at the same time wearing out internals because lack of lubrication of possible entrained air. Clear as mud, just kidding I think I got it, thank you all @Mopar1973Man @wil440 could it be that earlier pumps were failing with low fuel pressure because of all the revisions that haven't been done yet or is it possible that people were seeing 7psi when looking at it at idle or going down the road with no load and not under load where under load there was no pressure and damage was happening. Otherwise these stories contradict each other on how some get away with 5-7 psi lift pressure and have well over 250k on pump some even original. Lately I've been looking into all of these crazy subjects and more I look at them the more I'm not sure what is true anymore, it seems that most of what we're told is a lie
  3. I always used regular motor oil on orings with no issues. As for Lucas idk... shouldn't need it unless engine is wore out that stuff is like glue.
  4. I agree but I think the debate now is what is pushing it open the lift pump or the internal vane pump, and if it is internal pump that pushes 300psi then I'm confused why bother putting in a 14psi valve I'm trying guys give me a break
  5. Nothing wrong with that when I was in my 20s I had an rx7 1993 coolest car I've ever owned. Got it slightly racked in the front for a really good price, did all the repairs myself then I was a little hard on it and blew one of the rotors. Took the engine out it was surprised how small it was tore it all apart to realize I wasn't going to put it back together and it needed a lot of machine work. So I sent it down to Atkins rotary and had them put bigger Apex seals and do some race porting on it, then I had to get a stand-alone computer and program it to that engine, it was a fun little car. I was planning on putting much bigger injectors in and turbo on it but life changed and it got sold, it's still ran pretty hard with the original twin turbos that I rebuilt. https://youtu.be/RVo4hKoBWe0 https://youtu.be/H7QDdxxOqyo
  6. I think we're splitting hair here. Most of people can get 250,000 miles out of vp as long as lift pump still supplies fuel, not saying 17-18 psi is not ideal just saying it seems that there are plenty of people that got that many miles even with stock lift pumps as long as they work. 250k is good enough for me for vp, sure it be nice to get 500 but I'm ok with 250ish.
  7. I believe I've heard someone talking about before where if the motor is not running the fuel will not get pushed passed a certain spot in vp. Vp needs to be turning for fuel to go through. That's what I heard, not sure how true that is.
  8. I would test the injectors, could be both sets have one that's bad, other than that I'm
  9. Could it be a faulty return banjo bolt on vp? I don't think they go out that much, at least I haven't heard much on that, maybe worth checking though. If junk can get in to check valve on the pump maybe some of it made it to that return banjo. Up on installation of any fuel system it's important to purge all the lines before connecting it all. Just a thought.
  10. You'll be one of the survivors like mad max movie, trading labor for goods. Watch out for crazies with flamethrowers
  11. I can see benefits of their radiators, but not sure on coolers. My money would go towards a radiator if I ever need one, guessing plastic will eventually give out from age like they all do. Aluminum radiator with regular coolant changes should Las a lifetime.
  12. I honestly feel that if the threads on studs and in the hole are cut exact same than there should be exact same pressure across all of it.
  13. Idk this site says bottom it out https://www.maracing.net/choosing-the-right-head-stud
  14. I was always told not to bottom out studs because of how they grab the threads. Trying to picture it in my mind if it matters . I used motor oil on bottom threads and anti-seize on not threaded part to keep rust away, next time if I'll do it I'll put some of that fluid film on them
  15. We're definitely moving to another talk with vehicles, all I can say is how much does it cost to repair and who can do it. I see problems in long run at this point, but who knows what future brings.
  16. I've heard of people running some Fastnall studs and nuts and they supposed to have more tensile strength then arp. I used some bolts from there for my SBC before with good results.
  17. Yeah I got pretty lucky with just a deep gouge and a bruise. Seems to be healing good. Lesson learned. I seen some of the videos on YouTube with people loosing their trucks on ramps, never thought I'd be that close myself. Now that all the cables are new it works great but I'll still be shutting it off in gear from now on.
  18. Sure does, I'm at 800 a week just to go to work.
  19. There were a few people that had some issues with something on return side of mechanical pumps that made pressure fluctuate, kinda like ball and spring set up on electrical pumps
  20. That's awesome, best of luck to you.
  21. Much better, I took the stiches out Monday and heading to northern Minnesota for week of healthy leaving if I can get passed the boat ramp
